I don't understand this at all. His career injury record is appalling, he's let everyone down off the field and when he has been fit he's been useless.

There's better players in the youth team.

Another two years of him rinsing his profession, this is an appalling decision. This summer was the perfect opportunity to get rid of the dross at the club.

I wouldn't have thought he'd have got a new deal, but he has - perhaps it was a clause in his deal or perhaps it's simply because we would rather recoup a bit of money for him this summer rather than let him go for free.

But don't re-write history.

He was great for us when he first signed and a key part of the side. He's been horribly unlucky with injuries and no, his off-the field incident didn't help.

It's a clean slate for all the players though now - he's definitely got the quality to at least get a go in the pre-season under a new manager. If Koeman is happy with him, he'll keep him. If not, he'll be shipped on.

He also counts as home grown so if we are bringing in a lot of foreign players for the first team then that might be a factor.
