Darron Gibson

He is the best passer out of our midfielders and does make a lot of forward passes. When we play McCarthy and Cleverly we see far too many short and backward passing.

Gibson Forward passes
51 v Bournemouth
27 v Soton

The problem as we all know lies with his game time. I would guess he has had a fair reduction in wages to be offered 2 years.

Makes sense to give him a new deal I suppose. Won't be on mega wages and knows hell be on the bench more often than not. Pointless to release him then spend 10m on a replacement to also sit on the bench.

Utterly baffling. And who the hell even gave him the contract? There's no manager or director of football FFS.

Used to think Darron was a cracking player, but to be classed as such you have to actually play football occasionally which he doesn't. Dumbfounded by this, and hope we don't see deals for Osman, Hibbert, Pienaar, McGeady etc start to emerge now.

Two years?? wtf. Our status as charity for "former players who are now basically passengers" continues. Why couldn't we give him 1 year and see if he can stay injury free.

If you actually stop to think about this logically its actually makes perfect sense.

We have Besic, Barry, Jimmy Mac and Ross who can play there. Barry is coming to the end of his career and may or may not be up to 38+games a year. Besic is injury prone and inconsistent, Jimmy Mac has had his injuries and fatiuqe. Ross's powers can be used elsewhere.

Davies, Ledson, Walsh we suspect will all develop into starters for the first team but are prob of playing a full season next year.

So why sign a big money player for a central midfield slot and stop a pathway for the rich talent we have coming through there. Makes perfect sense to me to keep someone who knows the set up and run of the place and still has a bit in the tank as an insurance.

Actually makes perfect sense and encourages me about the clubs/managers emphasis on youth.
But why 2 years? Is it considered derisory to give someone his age a 1-year contract? Don't see why when he admits himself he is constantly crocked. At least he can't get injured at the Euros because he's not even in the Irish squad (a squad that DOES contain McGeady btw). O'Neill wouldn't bring him because he knows his form. He is in the Hargreaves category.

Injuries to McCarthy, Besic and Barry and we have nobody else to come in. Gibson is a useful replacement and requires no transfer fee which a replacement would.
Apart from Ledson, Davies etc.. I can't understand this signing from any perspective. This guy is a disgrace to the shirt with his off field choices (imagine it was a couple of kiddies in a buggy instead of a couple of fellas on bikes he crashed into loaded up on thunderbirds), can't stay fit in a stiff breeze and runs slower than me (and I am a 38 year old office slave).

OMG a 28 year old International has been offered a 2yr deal instead of walking on a Bosman...

*heads on fire*

Moshiri out.

Look at the current Irish squad. Look at how many of those players have never or don't regularly start for a premier league side. And then consider that Gibson can't even make that squad.
