What's the longest period Gibson has gone without injuring himself?

Look, if you're going to make the argument that he can be useful as a squad player then he needs to be reliably fit to be called upon when the squad needs him to come in. Over the last 4 years he hasn't been able to do that. What's the point in having someone being paid his wages who can't be relied on to be available when needed?
Listen, given the right coaching and fitness regimen, Gibson could easily make a name as one of the best CMs the club has ever had.

He's a far greater player than any of the current crop.

The lad has been unfortunate with injuries and let himself and the club down once.

Hopefully he goes after the vapers and vegans next

Midfielders (inc. Wingers) currently at the club better than Gibson:

Ross the Boss
G-Baz
Pienaar
Super Kev

All the rest are considerably worse. Easy decision really.

please don't get around the swear filter
If Cleverley's contract was up now how many of us do you reckon would be happy for him to have been renewed? And he actually played more than a handful of games...

Both Gibson & Cleverly are quality footballers. Unfortunately, one is a known pisshead, who's never managed to keep himself fit in 12 seasons of professional football. I would have never have signed him & would have got rid at any time since. The other is a model professional, who I would definitely keep. Cleverly has a quick brain & can pass the ball. We have too many players who can't. I predict that Koeman will weed out McCarthy, Mirallas, Coleman (& Lukaku will go) & we'll see Cleverly thrive with better players around him. Hey, maybe Gibson too if the new physio is a miracle worker & Koeman can discipline the pr1ck.

Teams are hardly going to be knocking down the door to sign him. If there was any serious offers that didn't hurt him too much in the pocket he would have gotten off before signing this extension. He's 28 and constantly unfit or injured.

Agreed. But I guarantee you there will be a few teams willing to spend a couple of million on him. I see it as a cynical and effective business decision. We will see though.

Read a post earlier that suggested Koeman knew he had already been offered an extension, and thought the offer should be honoured.

I like Gibson, but would be a bit alarmed if there are too many other extensions hanging around.
He's a good player when not injured. Sadly on those 2 occasions during a season he misses match fitness.

Wow, that news shocked me more than the day we signed Kanchelskis....
I like Gibson, but how the hell did he get a 1 year extension let alone a 2 year deal....

Some party in the Gibson household tonight....

That's a long way off your claim of him potentially being one of the best CMs to ever play for the club.
Why couldn't he be? Half of this lot was hailing the signing of Cleverley as the second coming of Peter Reid.

Gibson is better than Cleverley.
