Teams like Sunderland and Hull need players who are going to be available, Gibson is too injury prone for them. Can't understand the sense in renewing his contract, Koeman must see something in him. We'll see what he can do when Koeman gets him match fit. Could be like a new signing, it will surprise me but in Koeman we trust.

I honestly think the lad has got an excellent footballing brain.

He was called up unfit and thrust into the semi final against United and I can't say he did a bad job considering we could and should have really done them that day.

I think he's one of those footballers which only fits a very very specific role, so either the club have signed him on further for Koemans plans, or we are going into Niasse decision making territory here... [Poor language removed] lad.

Come on Darren show us your stuff lad.

Did someone @The Cowboy not prove Gibson's deal was done before koeman arrived maybe DK was in the loop but thats what was reported?
Yeah, he was given the contract about 5 days before Koeman signed. Short enough time to think they may have run it by him during the negotiation phase, but he was still offered the contract by someone in the club before Koeman was officially the manager.

There is no way that they wouldnt have asked ALL interviewed managers how they would take the squad forward and their plans for improvement.

100% Koeman would be the one to recommend the new deal.

Can you blame him though?

I mean, yeah, he's injured a lot, but he has had periods where he plays 10-15 games in a row with no problems, and he is a fantastic midfielder with an impressive passing range. Maybe Koeman thought he can fix him with better preparation and all that, and keep him as a backup? Obviously so far it's backfired, but then again Besic got injured after 7 seconds on the pitch as well, so it's also really bad luck for us/Koeman/both players.

He's been signed for the quota hasn't he?

The criticism of Gibson here is nothing short of appalling. The lad never asked to be given a new contract did he? The club offered him one.

He'll be on very small wages compared to the likes of even niasse and kone, and just like I said two seasons ago, when we resigned Hibbert, I'll say it again now, his experience and talent (never said that about Tony mind) will help the young lads like Davies, Dowell etc...grow as players.

For me, it's important for any club to have depth and he's currently providing that. As everyone has said, he's not being chosen, not because he's injured, but because of how far we've came over the last few years where our squad can take 4-5 injuries and not be down to the bare bones.

I like Gibson, and whilst injuries have certainly ruined his Everton career, its obvious, that, when given the chance he'll slot in and do a job.

I mean does he really stand a chance of replacing Gueye or Barry in that midfield? Would he get on bench before deulofeu, Lennon or a very clear Koeman favourite in Davies? No.

The whole situation is being looked at ALL wrong in my opinion, and the Gibson saga should be looked at in a good one.
