David Moyes - Taking a knife to a gunfight at West Ham, Part 2

I'm not for one minute downplaying what Moyes or WHU are doing. They're doing great, I'm not disputing that. I'm disputing the fact that you're painting a picture of them being perfect and us crashing. When in reality, last season there was 6 points between us (many thought we'd get Europe until the injuries) and there's 3 points between us this season (Davies could've made it 1 point/not conceding the set piece against WHU could've meant level or above) both games IMO, we win without our injuries.

You can also never say that a manager from a side that is doing well will have that same success if they were here either, it's all about timing and what you have at your disposal. It's pointless to suggest that had we got Moyes in we'd have been flying now, he would be coming in to a club that demands success, thus increased pressure and a few wrong results we'd all be saying Moysie is still an also-ran. He didn't win anything in 11 years when we had a decent side and the opposition were less numerous and less equipped than they are now.

On top of that most managers that are actually deemed successful have won most of their trophies before 60, or at least started before and carried on. Moyes is into his 59th year. It just doesn't stack up. I would not begrudge him getting his moment in the sun by winning a pot as he is a competent manager, just one that up until now has not been able to give his team that inner belief that they can do it.

I think you are stuck in the past a bit with that one. Managing on the Premier League is more prestigious than winning cups in most leagues. That’s why they all end up coming over here to manage!

I don't think that's being stuck in the past, no one gets into sport trying to be second best. You give it your all until factors mean you can no longer continue to do that. I agree though success is relative, he is in the top highest % managers in the English game. Is he a million more times successful than me? Of course.

That said when he agreed to take over the PL champions on a 6 year contract if you told him at that point within that time all you would have won is a Charity Shield and relegation for Sunderland I'm sure he would have been disappointed on a personal level. The exhilaration of achieving something is what most crave for and it also helps cement legacies.

So when I want West Ham to lose they win, but next weekend I will be cheering on West Ham and they'll get beat guaranteed

Given their form they are top 4 contenders, well ahead of us. The only issue for them is given towards the end of the season and all the extra European games, they run out of steam.

They've gotten so lucky with injuries. They had a full squad available today and have done for the majority of the season. As soon as they get a few injuries to the forward line they'll start to stutter.

But credit to Moyes, he's built a really balanced and strong team there.
