David Moyes - Taking a knife to a gunfight at West Ham, Part 2

Well done Moyes on keeping them up (just)

I'm over it to be honest and don't wish him any particular ill will these days

Looking back some of the best sides we had under him would smash the side we have now
Correct. He assembled a good side with next to nothing to spend. People have short memory’s, well done on keeping West Ham up, where they bottom when he took over, or in bottom three?

One point off the bottom three. He signed a fella called Soucek for 18M who looks like a tremendous defensive midfielder, but who is also a giant who chips in with lots of goals. The new Fellaini!

Isnt that big galoot on loan?

Would like us to be in for him looks the business.

I think he has a two year contract, means nothing of course but I reckon they'll keep him. He obviously has good connections on the West Ham board to be appointed manager twice and has made a decent fist of it on both occasions.

Everyone hates him because of the United stuff and acrimony following all the transfer nonsense he spouted when trying for Fellaini etc. The United job was possibly too big and he was a poor match for what they needed, but West Ham are similar to when we were battling down the bottom under Walter Smith and Moyes came in.

It was never all bad times with David here, for the first few years he really excelled, 4th in the league in 2005, above Liverpool, was an exceptional achievement. (forget low points totals and all that nonsense) and rarely, even in bad times, did he have us worrying about relegation at the close of a season but mostly top eight.

Moyes is actually a good manager for a struggling club looking to get back up the table
Think he would have been good for Man U because once he gets it to a level he stays there. Just never had the cash for that bit of extra quality with us.

A long had argument but he did assemble a fantastic team or two.

And did nothing with them.

When you build a great team and send them off to fear the other team you aren't ever going to achieve anything. That's why United sacked him, because the culture shock of going from reigning champs to fearing the likes of West ham when they were beating them was not what the players wanted to hear.

You could have given Moyes Ronaldo Messi and Zidane and he still would have had us defending our 18 yard box on a 1-0. He still would have set up to avoid defeat away at the big 4 and we still would have underachieved.

Tripe. We played some great stuff those last couple of seasons. He was overcautious at times, but he definitely outperformed his resources by a fair margin. Wasn't he pretty much on a zero net spend when he left after 11 years?

Winning trophies is not a fair barometer of success when you are competing with clubs with far more money (Arsenal, RS, Man Utd, Chelsea)
