2024/25 David Moyes

Was just reading the West Ham forums and it seems that there are some who never wanted him to leave. One particular post said that part of the downfall was a director of football who came in called Steidten who started calling the shots and that led to a demise in form and was the beginning of the end.

I think it's essential Moyes has the power to make decisions going forward with us. I do think Thelwell will allow that which is good. But its important the owners understand Moyes will work best when he makes the final decision on matters and not some outsider DOF tampering with his plans.
Was coming in to say this. The penny has officially dropped today and yesterday in the main West ham forum. There was a few whispers. And they got absolutely snuffed out after the Villa game.

But now the people that didn't want moyes gone are in full voice.

What I would say to "yeah hes our most successful manager and had us in Europe but the football was bad the last season." -is that as an Evertonian he would finish 17th and we would keep the faith and be in Europe again the season after.

The irony about Potter. They are all saying "he needs time" hahaha

What a stunning start to his new tenure. So pleased for the players too, they’ve had to deal with insane levels of stress over the past few seasons.
Hopefully this is a period of relative calm and transition, that we as supporters can get behind and enjoy.
We’ve got the points in the bag thank god as next few matches will be tough with just 14 players. Any idea when we start seeing the injured lot return? Is it April?

Whatever happens from here on out I am forever grateful to him, and I was unsure about him coming back in the first place.

It looked like the bleakest relegation fight yet, years of mismanagement finally killing us, in our last season at Goodison, with our lovely neighbours winning the league as well. It was all lining up for the ultimate humiliation.

We are now 99% safe, with months to spare, able to start looking up and preparing for our first season at GP. I haven’t felt this hopeful since Moyes left, ironically.

I wasn’t for him coming back but he has certainly got the team playing & is most importantly getting results. Seems the players are impressed as well.

Will need to see the team consistently give the top teams a game to find out if he has moved on from his knife to a gun fight mentality to be happy he is here longer term.

Remember when Moyes joined and he was the outstanding young manager of his generation? He’s still the same driven guy, but with tonnes of experience.

I could see him staying here, winning a trophy (or two), reinstating a culture and then moving upstairs when a protege takes the reins.
Hope he does win something, we should be expecting nothing less under the new owners and with the magnificent new stadium and the spending power both bring to the table.

If he does there is a slim, and I mean extremely slim chance I can ignore his previous departure and the rest of my grievances with him.
I’m talking this slim 🤏🏼 in case it wasn’t clear 😂

Funny thing, was watching some podcast that was going on about Arteta being more Mourinho than pep in style.

All I was thinking is maybe he's more Moyes than either of those given how long he was under Moyes for

I think it's an interesting discussion; because Arteta has clearly lived every minute of his career like it was his last because of the heart condition he was born with. Going off interviews his former managers said he was like a sponge for instructions, tactics and the player they knew would step into coaching.

Personally, I think he found Pep's intensity, attention to detail as something that reflects his own personality. I'll never change my opinion that this style of coaching wouldn't work for me, I would kill for Mourinho as a player but tune Pep out.

Tactically, man management I have him spiritually closer to Guardiola. Collective mentality, use of ostracism is pure Mourinho.

Where do you fit Moyes in to my nonsense, based off one or two interviews and 20 minutes of a Netflix series mosaic?

I like Arteta as a manager. He has his flaws like most, but he made Arsenal more of a consistent challenger to the title than Wenger did up until about 2006. I do however think he’s on borrowed time there. If he doesn’t win an another trophy within the next year I can see them parting company with him. I could see him managing us after that.

Sounds like he learned a lot from Moyes, especially on the man management side:

“It’s more than respect, I think it’s admiration,” Arteta revealed. “I loved playing under him. I would have gone through a brick wall for him when he was my manager, as everybody would in that squad.

“[He’s] a really good coach, exceptional at managing the group and dealing with individuals, and he’s a very special person, very trustworthy, and a man who honours his word. He always did it and he’s someone I learnt a lot from.

“He asked me to play in positions that I’ve never played in my life. The way he challenged me, but at the same time the way he gave me support, love and care – it was the right balance and it’s what I needed, and he got the best out of me. So, he was really, really helpful.”

I wouldn’t be amazed if he’s a little surprised himself, how well it’s gone thus far. Just goes to show: right man, right club, right time..
I also get the vibe the players have bought into it, I don’t think they liked Dyche, bar a few of them. Not one wished him well on social media when he left. It was time to go for sure. And now we can finally, finally start to be optimistic about our future.
