2024/25 David Moyes

The warning signs are there.

Since the United game it has been draws and the football has become a lot more negative.

Hopefully a sign of our depleted winger situation and not of a new manager bounce coming to an end.
Recent results have been a little disappointing yes. We should have beaten both Brentford and Man Utd.

So we're trending downwards but in reality we were never winning most or all of the games and now nine unbeaten.

The bounce is over but injuries and limited options are not. Still need to fight for everything between now and May with players returning. Then the crucial transfer work ahead.

Wolves are 9 points clear of the relegation zone tonight. We'd have snapped anyone's hand off who offered us this when Moyes took over, but he has us well clear of that. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for him, he's our saviour.
My guess is when we have kept working with Dyche we'd increased our gap to the last 3, because Ipswich and Leicester won 2 respectively 3 points in the last 11 games. But it would have been a fight of getting 17th with Wolves. And staying up with under 1ppg, because of this time with no deductions involved of how bad the bottom 3 were.

We played all the teams of 11-17 under Moyes, and lost none. Moyes gives us the chance to finish between 13-16 with West Ham, Spurs and Man United among us, something we could have dreamed of a few weeks ago. To catch up 7 points to Brentford is probably out of reach rather. That's impressive considering the injuries.

Moyes has done better but as bad as Dyche was he left a solid enough defensive structure. Moyes could just let them off the leash a bit because of how negative Dyche was.

Potter took over a team that had leaked goals all the time for the previous 18 months under Lopetegui and under Moyes last season. He's had to tighten them up.
Yes best not to judge either of them over such a short period time will tell, Potter’s team on Saturday looked a better football team than Everton although when Moyes made those changes, very late, we let West Ham know we were back in the game.

I mean it says a lot we're now disappointed in 4 wins 5 draws 0 losses in 9.
Seven weeks ago we couldnt muster a shot on the oppositions goal and i was genuinely concerned the only way we'd stay up was 3 teams being worse than us.

The form overall is obviously very good. As you say, 9 games unbeaten is genuinely impressive and Moyes deserves huge credit for that. I get the point being made though, there is a bit of a shift in the results (and performances) as we get to the more recent form. 1 win in 7 and no clean sheets is a bit of a comedown from the 3 consecutive wins without conceding that we had at first, especially given that we've had a number of games against teams around us in the league. That's not a criticism at all, I'd have bitten your hand off for this run of form overall and the character to have come back for draws in a few of the games is great to see, but I do think reality has set back in to some extent and we're back to showing bottom half form again now.

Snott & his assistant did get a two match ban - it took a month he told the ref Michael Oliver in the Derby at the end of the game with a firm handshake - that allowing our equaliser at the end costs is team the title - he threatened him plus his assistant did the same - the delay was in Michael Oliver written report to the prem that took an age - watered down no doubt ? -

Snott did claim the Goodison fans atmosphere was an experience he had never come across in all his life - he was scared of the toxic atmosphere & noise levels against his side & himself :D -

We can carry on their slide by beating them next at Anfield & get DM another manager of the month award .....

We got one striker available and missing our main man and still should have beat a couple of teams instead of the draws,we doing absolutely fine.

Don't think anyone is denying that we are a bottom half team. I think we all knew that. What we also knew was the team had more in it than what Dyche could get out of them. Moyes steps in and proves what a fraud Dyche was. We are basically safe now, something we didn't expect until the last couple of games.

Moyes ain't silly and he knows a big shift is needed but he is setting his goals higher than what Dyche was. Now we have some spending money we could possibly aim for top half next season then continue with improvements. We are still a few years away, probably, from Euro places but that will be the aim.
We should all remain positive now and look forward to a rebuild. We will not become a great team overnight.

I get what some are saying about the results aren't quite as positive, but if reports are to be believed then there are some players who have now been told their future lies elsewhere. This can have a negative reaction in and around the training ground, it can be a difficult situation to manage, especially given there are potentially quite a number of players who have been told.

It's important to maintain the momentum, you could see on Saturday he really pushed to get the equaliser at the end, and it wasn't just a case of swapping one forward for another.

Which reports ?

I know what you mean, and the past 5 years have reinforced that habit for looking for negative trends during positive runs.

For me I'm a little irritated that we haven't taken the chance to climb the table (which is very 'old-Everton' )- now Utd are starting to pull away, Tottenham may follow...maybe even West Ham and so we get left where we are or lower.

There's still a lot to be positive about though - we are doing ok with a pretty patched up team, espcially on the wings / forward. With NDiaye I think we'd be higher up.

For the future, better wing options and a settled striker situation should see us fine next season.

I'm greedy though, I want to see us challenging for Europe soon.

Right now we are probably about where we should be in the table with this team sadly - clear of relegation but not really competing for anything.

There are no ifs or buts for me on this one. He saved the club from being reliant on three teams being worse by( easly) distancing us from the relegation zone, something that wasnt going to happen under Dyche. Im grateful for not having to watch teams like ipswich and praying they dont pick up 3 points.
The squad shortcomings are still for all to see and its one for the summer and onwards. Right now we're at least competetive in games. He's getting free hits from me probably until the end of the season for all of the above.

Some people have definitely been denying that we're a bottom half team, they have all season. Winning 3 of the first 4 games after Moyes came in saw loads of people suggesting that should have been the norm, which absolutely isn't the case if you accept you're a bottom half team.

Moyes is a better manager than Dyche, I'm sure we all knew that anyway, but the results since he came in have reinforced it. There's no argument there. The point is just that we have slipped back pretty seamlessly into the sort of form that sees you in the positions we've been in over recent years. I say all the time, it's cliche but things change quickly in football and a couple of bad results in the next 2 and suddenly you're going from '9 unbeaten, doubled the points tally already' type of chat to 'not won a game for ages, only going at a point a game for quite a long period now' stuff. I realise i'm running the risk of sending up the bat signal for the usual people to come out saying i must love Dyche or hate Moyes but it's nothing to do with either of them, it's just a comment on where the squad is really at, and the work we need to do to get away from that.
