2024/25 David Moyes

Yes we're conceding goals but we also are scoring way more goals. That's the push-pull of the situation. I 100% will take that trade-off. I much prefer attacking teams and ending up with a 1-1 or 2-2 than Dyche's aim of drawing every game 0-0. We are much more likely to get 3 points under Moyes with this squad than with Dyche.
Beats being bored 💩less half the time!

form has dipped slightly but still massively overperforming compared to the dyche form

united we should have won 3 or 4 nil, two world class strikes got us back and even then we should have had a penalty

brentford was a tough place to go after that and again could have won but for some brilliant goalkeeping

wolves were desperate for the points and we had an off game

west ham the only one that was disappointing but even then the determination from the players to not give in was promising

ndiaye is hugely missed. and the likes of beto, doucoure and garner look very leggy at the minute. hopefully with the results less of an issue now a chance to shake things up with chermiti, broja, charly and iroegbunam will help
This is a huge part of it, in my opinion. It's the perils of having a small squad and an unhealthy number of injuries. I'm very glad that Moyes is managing that scenario, however, as Dyche was struggling to get anything out of an essentially fully fit squad.

Yeah that's what i'm saying really, there were plenty of people who were suggesting we could still finish top half after he took over, nevermind just be top half over the course of the season, but recent results have dropped off back into bottom half territory which I think is a fair reflection of what we are. I've been pretty consistent in saying I think we're a team I'd expect to be somewhere around 12th-15th. Dyche was underperforming on that and Moyes is overperforming overall but things seem to trending towards being in that bracket again. I'm hoping for a good summer that moves us into the bracket above that, with European qualification as the aim and a top half finish as the requirement.

It's fair, and people probably extrapolate too much (myself included).

But look, if we pick up the same points from the next 9 as the first 9, that would be a bigger sample size.

I think across a season Moyes would have us about 10th. Then a lot depends on how well we recruit, and how quickly those guys bed in.

Garner, Patterson, Coleman, Branthwaite, McNeill, and Iroegbunam all missed several games.

They were not all out at the same time, and most for only a game or two. There weren't three or four first teamers all out for weeks or months at the same time a la DCL, N'Diaye, McNeil, Mangala. Dyche had a much, much stronger hand than Moyes and played it very poorly. I'm not even a fan of Moyes but he's levels above that biff.

By the way, I absolutely love that you put Patterson on that list because Dyche relied on him so, so much and would definitely have played him loads.

There was a number-crunching article in the Athletic a couple of months ago saying that this is where we should be finishing based on our wage bill. IIRC I think it was something like we should be getting 1.25 ppg based on our wage bill, which has us around that position

Here's what the robot thinks...

That is a brutal run of fixtures for Everton. Here’s my take on their potential points from these five games:

1. Liverpool (A) – Loss (0 points)

• Tough place to go, especially with Liverpool pushing for the title or top four. I don’t see Everton getting much here unless it’s a freak game.

2. Arsenal (H) – Loss (0 points)

• Arsenal are in great form, and even at Goodison, this will be difficult. A draw could happen if Arsenal struggle to break them down, but I’d still lean toward a loss.

3. Nottingham Forest (A) – Draw (1 point)

• Forest are beatable, but they’re usually decent at home. Everton might grind out a point here in a scrappy match.

4. Man City (H) – Loss (0 points)

• City should win this comfortably unless they rotate heavily before a big Champions League game.

5. Chelsea (A) – Loss (0 points)

• Chelsea are unpredictable, but at Stamford Bridge, they should have enough to get the win.

Total points prediction: 1

• If they overperform, maybe they can sneak 2-3 points, but I don’t see more than that. What do you think?
edit: here's my own take

Neighbours A - a point here would be very decent, every chance they beat us tho - 0 pts
Arsenal H - West Ham managed to turn them over a few weeks ago - no reason why we can't get at least a point here - 1 pt
Forest A - I mean, they are flying at the moment, but maybe if we can match them, it could be a high-scoring draw - 1 pt
Man City H - best chance of a win, apart from Arsenal? - 1 pt
Chelsea A - no chance - 0 pt

Minimum haul of 3 pts, could be up to 5 or higher with a following wind.
