It’s mad though, we all saw his tactics… Bully Football, completely different to the first team. Put personal glory over the glory of the club.

Now he’s gone to Oldham, he’s awful, and is anyone really shocked? Yet he kept our job for about 5 years.

The absolute state of our fans.

Fans that have never so much as player more than 15 mins of footy for their school teams about 40 years ago are now experts on everything in the game.

Usworth winning under 23 games wasn't a bad thing? It's the Director of Football's job or the first team managers job to set a style for the club but blaming a lifetime Blue for being successful at u23 level is just bizarre.

Winning under 23 games isn’t bad but ultimately is it really a measure of what unsworth’s role was ? Wasn’t his real job to prepare and bring players into the first team ? We set out to win matches and as ideal That’s laudable but it meant playing older players or in the case of injuries shifting players around the pitch to cover , rather than move U18’s up to replace them . For me that’s illustrated by the amount of times we’d often never really knew where a players position was, on the few occasions they broke few. It meant we had players stagnating in the U23 never released on loan to keep the ‘success ‘ going .

The RS usually finished around 4th , even 7th but their youth policy leaves ours behind . Even the likes of Chelsea might have won their league but often placed further down . I believe much of the Unsworth criticism comes from a perception, right or wrong , that he put his own ‘success’ at U23 level ahead of building for the clubs future . Saying all that I don’t disagree that a lot of former players , be it Unsworth, Ferguson even Osman seem To get an Inordinate amount of stick .

Winning is fine, but the point of the under 23's is surely measured by what talent is nurtured to come through to the first team, Unsworth failed at that and was rightly let go, what is you're problem with that ? There has been a culture of jobs for the boys all throughout Kenwrights tenure, which has been a disaster for this club, fans rightly in my opinion want and deserve better, but you go right ahead slagging fellow Everton off because you obviously know much better.

The culture of abuse within the fan base is pathetic, see comments too about Sharp tonight, we have the exact club we deserve and nothing more.

His job as U23 AND academy director (he bizarrely held both roles, remember) was to produce a stream of players ready for Evertons first team or sell them on as a precious income stream. If he does neither there's absolutely no point in running a really expensive academy.

When you consider how long he was in the job he was an utter failure in both respects. We had players well into their 20s walking away for nothing after 3/4/5 seasons with Unsies 'champions.' (Man united got relegated from the U23 PL in the same period and produced several first teamers)

The argument has been made previously that he just didn't have the talent to work with. That could be partially true, perhaps other teams In the country have a better youth scouting system by he had his favourite lads and that was that. Nobody else mattered.

When you factor in the stories of a culture of bullying around Finch Farm and several prospects deciding not to extend (conformed by an agent on a recent podcast) it's a real shame it took Thelwell to show up and show him the door.

The phoney statement from the club on how they reluctantly let him leave to further his ambitions as a manager just sums up the culture of failure Everton. He was fired, simple as that.

"David Unsworth has left his role as Everton U23 manager and academy director. We would like to thank David for his years of service and a player, U23 manager and two stints as first team caretaker and wish him every success for the future"

Easy, but no. We had to dress it up so as to not hurt the fellas feelings. He genuinely thought he had a job for life. Next stop? Bamber Bridge.

Sharpy like all the mid eighties team will always hold a special place in many of our hearts but his comments after one of the protests the " One man and his dog " comment nailed his flag firmly to the Kenwright mast.
I hope he came to regret that comment as I am still grateful to him for turning out for my brothers funeral

His comment was spot on, an Everton legend, no true Evertonian has a bad word to say about him.

We had several players who joined our academy as highly touted and went on to regress, or are now playing back abroad for middle-of-the-road teams. Some played for the first team, looked alright, and never featured again and are now down the leagues or in Scotland etc.

Tell me we couldn't have developed a mediocre talent to sell in this inflated market so I can tell you how much we've failed as an academy lol
