Defoe/Nugent/Smith

If Nugent is really that eager/desperate to play for us then surely he should just stuff any offer by any other club? That is of course, if Moyes is actually willing to pay £4m rather than give Vic and Vaughan a chance (or sign Gudjohnsen ... :P )

Correct me if I am wrong, but if Nugent said to Preston he will only leave for Everton and he will not renew his contract, then they will have to sell for 4m either now or in Jan... simply because if they didn't they would lose him for nothing next summer. In fact, that could be better for us. Sign him for 0 next season (he'll still only be 22) while giving Vic an Vaughan a chance.

For once am happy with Everton's transfer tactics. Everton are holding their ground, as they did with Jagielka. If Nugent wants to play for us as much as he claims, then the ball is firmly in Evertons court... especially with Nugents contract expiring next year. And Preston know it, I mean, take a look at their managers latest comments;

Simpson "Portsmouth and Sunderland are the only two clubs who have agreed a fee with us. And the best of my knowledge no one else has even contacted us.

"I actually think we will be seeing the lad on Monday, although I am really guessing because I honestly don't know what David is thinking."
""I think the two clubs who have been in for him, and we have accepted offers from, are fantastic clubs. I'm sure they would both be a good move for him."

Translation: "he's leaving, we desperately want him to go to Sunderland or Portsmouth because we'll get at least an extra 2m."

I've rambled on abit here, but if Nugent signs for any other club, its simply because we didnt want him because if we did, am sure we would have got him for 4m.

lets sing.....

'we have 7 strikers, seven strikers, and we dont need anymore'

its as though its walter smith in reverse, instead of 8 defenders on the pitch, we can have 8 strikers instead.

the problem with this is, Preston may well think, "so he goes now for 4million, or we get another year out of him and maybe get in the prem (they've been close for years) and that's worth 30 million"

so its not easy even if Nugent refuses all but Everton. He wants to play in the prem and Preston may well call our bluff and just keep him. Personally I think it would make sense if they did keep him rather than sell him for a smaller fee.

just a thought....

according to the news of the screws.....smith has been shagging ronaldos bird. is this why hes leaving manure?

Maybe she was fed up of being the second girl in the relationship and went to a hard-man!!!

Defoe would be a class signing, id defo go for him if were sniffing around a striker.

18 goals last season with a handfull of games. Ill think hel leave spurs to mind his place in the england setup for Euro 2008.

I agree i think defoe would be a great signing i also like smith but have a funny feeling we will get nugent it seems funny he has been meeting a lot of clubs who have had bids accepted but signed for none.

Well what do you want in a striker. Alan Smith is a pass and move player. Defoe runs for britain when we have got Aj to do that. Well Nudgent done good in the Championship but the Premiership is more tougher. If i had to pick it would be Defoe.

Smith is no striker, but for a hard hitting team he could an amazing attacking midfielder.
