This seems fairly straightforward.
He'll get over his surgery, train with Everton, Dyche will make a call on whether he's properly applying himself.
If he's not, some lower league loan or Everton buy out the rest of his contract (without the add ons) and release him.
It's not a big deal.
I kinda feel for the guy, he's being humiliated during his prime. If that, combined with Dyche's tough love doesn't work, nothing will.
He's already paid for himself and then some with that performance against Palace last season.

I don't think it's just us, he is difficult to negotiate with. I think Levy does quite a lot right, but for me he is often too pog headed in negotiations, too keen to prove he has won and doesn't spend enough time thinking of the bigger picture.

I think he will be cross that we undermined him re Alli, and is the churlish sort that I can imagine will not want that getting more widely known. I'm amazed he is surprised, as we couldn;t have choreographed our thinking any more, than inserting a 1st payment date a few games after the outstanding games remaining.

Talking is easy...dyche will very quickly see it during training in pre season if worth keeping or not. In any case, even if we want to get rid, we still need to pretend that he can still do it so that we find a buyer.

You’re forgetting he’s £6.2m or so up every season because he talked Bill in to picking up his wages.
That transfer fee was simply a hedge, just getting some schmuck to cover the remaining 3 years of his contract was a big win.
Everton won’t negotiate a lower transfer fee because he won’t play for us ever again. £2m would just be adding fuel to the fire of wasting money.
