2022/23 Dele Alli

At what point do we go from talking about Dele's "potential" to become the player he was 3-4 years ago and accept that he's just one of those players who once upon a time was great for a bit but never will be again.

He could easily go the way of Ravel Morisson: getting clubs and contracts here and there because once upon a time he did bits.

We're paying him best part of £100k a week and seemingly have no real plan or use for him. Depending on the specifics of the deal, he's a "bit part luxury" who could end up costing us at least £20m by the time his contract expires.

Either play him in his best role with full games or move him on, assuming there would be a taker for him he'd want to go to.

I guess we do that at the point that Frank thinks he's flogging a dead horse. I know you like to think you know what's going on in Frank's mind and that he's decided already, but the reality is that you really don't. You can surmise all you like but he's in the squad every week (unlike others we could mention), and so it seems that Frank sees enough for now to persevere.

As I said in my earlier post, good management needs time and support. It may be that he never makes it back, but in the scheme of things, and at the start of a new season with new personnel, it's too early to write him off.

I did not claim I 'know what's going on in Frank's mind' but we can assess what we see infront of us.

Of course he's in the squad every week, he's a first team squad member and there's 20 players involved in a matchday squad. That he doesn't start games is telling. That he doesn't get off the bench most weeks is telling. That he only gets a few minutes here and there is telling. Playing Gordon/Gray out of position at CF instead of going with Dele is telling.

He's had new seasons and new personnel for the last 3 years without looking like anything other than drifting along, going through the motions. I have no doubt this time next year, if he's still here, we'll still be asking the same questions "this time" around because ~5 years ago he was good.

He openly said so, in fact when Ali arrived his very words in the video were "we did it" this was talked about on here a lot the day it happened.

Either way he is here now, and what we do with him seems to be a problem.
I mean I can’t remember him openly saying that he 100% wanted him and it was his idea; I mean if you can find the article please link it up.

Yeah sorry mate, it was another poster who was telling us that Frank has written him off.

But that he doesn't start games just yet could equally be telling of the stage of his development back towards his prime. He does actually come on most games, and most people agree that when he does he makes a difference compared to those around him.

His last 2 seasons at Spurs he was put on the fringe by managers who didn't believe in him. That's their call.

I know you're not a fan mate - I'm just putting forward the view that it makes little sense to bin him off after 2 games of a new season when Frank has said all along he wants to start this season fresh and create his own team and approach.

Give it time - what is there to lose?

Dele seems very comfortable and settled in his life, doesn't strike me as the kind of lad/player who would have any desire to go to the middle east and probably not the MLS.

I doubt he wants to drop down a division and there aren't any Prem takers for him, so he's going to be here until his contract expires, we'll end up paying Spurs a couple of £10m payments for his 10 minute cameo run outs, and he'll get another club and another contract somewhere else.

Just when we get rid of Sigurdssen, Delph, Tosun our incompetent meddling board go & bring this waster in.

I hate Moshiri. I hate Kenwright.

Did he openly say so; because the rumours were that we were still going off our old “targets” list.

Lampard just give the ok
Uncle Arry took credit for recommending Alli during one of his impromptu curb-crawling interviews in January, though I'm not sure he could be reached for comment on the matter if asked now.
