I never thought this signing was going to work from day 1, but even I’m gobsmacked at how badly it’s actually turned out.
It’s been bad but it’s sad to think we’ve probably had worse deals!

He was still an important part of the place comeback so at the very least there’s that.

He was also able to deal with a lot of personal demons and he said he’s back to a much better place mentally which while not great for the team on the pitch is something special for him.

I can’t help but like the guy and I’m willing him to come back.

For me without doubt Everton's worst ever signing.

Players can suddenly be plagued by injuries, it happens.

Hot prospects can fail to settle or just go off the boil.

Sometimes your scouts can just get it wrong.

This guy was clearly finished at Spurs. The whole of football seemed to know apart from Everton.

The complete lack of due diligence is frankly embarrassing.

Everybody thought Peter Reid was done. The whole of football seemed unwilling to take a chance on him apart from Everton.

Some gambles pay off, some don't, some have yet to do either.

Nobody knew Dele's deeper reasons for his lack of form and let's be honest, an off form player who doesnt make the Spurs squad, currently gets a starting place in a few positions within our team.

I'm struggling to know though, just how much due diligence would we need to do to find out something about a player that nobody knew about?

Worst kept secret in football. The guy has had major problems for some time. Levy giving him away should get the alarm bells ringing.

The worst thing about this whole affair was how unnecessary it was. If moshiri hadn't done his mate a favour with the pointless loan of El Ghazi, we could have just loaned Dele and sent him back at the end of the season. his wages wouldn't have crippled us long term, and we wouldn't have had to pay wages for El Ghazi.

I agree that getting a mentally and physically fit Dele Alli could re-ignite his career, I would love to see nothing more.

The only thing I will say, and it might come across insensitive is that whilst he was battling his demons and injuries, since his last appearance in an Everton shirt it has cost the club c£10m, baring in mind a club that has been charged for an FFP breach, with nothing in return.

We don`t know what will happen in the remainder of the season, our cash strapped club will part with another £2.5m from now till June for Dele.

I`m praying to god that when he does come back he will be more like the Dele we seen previously, he would be the perfect Doucoure replacement, technically he has always been better than Doucs. If he comes back the player he was before then that outlay may have been worth it, but if he comes back and isn`t up to it then it has to go down as another expensive mistake.

The power play could be that his contract runs out, Spurs then lose the right to any transfer fee then we resign him and he is free to play without us having to part with any money.

Again I`m praying he comes back strong, I don`t think he will be the player he was before but he has the ability to be one of our best players.....

I can only assume the El Ghazi loan was some way connected to getting the amount we wanted for Digne, that in turn allowed us to sign Patterson and Mykolenko.

If not it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
