2022/23 Demarai Gray

Compare to how we have fared pre season upfront he looks like Pele to that lot on show ..... if we sell him 10 million is far too low imo.....

Our policy of consistently selling our best players over the last 5 years and replacing them with 'potential' or 'known premier league quality' (aka top 6 rejects) is directly at fault for this wasting squad we see before us. I for one am an advocate of ruthlessly holding on to a top player, even if they wantaway, if it means we keep a certain standard in the squad and show some kind of ambition (a la Levy and Kane at Spurs).

That Gray is one of our better technical players is a horrid thought but regardless, there comes a time when a player gets below a certain quality for the team full stop and should be shipped. Gray isn't good enough to be crying about or acting as a tough negotiator. As for the price, I would say £10m-£15m feels about right, but ultimately I don't care.

Either way, as stated, needs to be replaced with a better option.

Some pony goal away at City .....
I did say he scores bangers. The one against the Arse as well a season or so ago was unreal. But let's not get blinded by the lights. He's not all that

….talking generally, last season I felt Gray was our most dangerous attacker but I’ve always described him as a ‘complicated’ rather than an effective striker.

’Complicated’ players are difficult to form partnerships with and blend into a team. Gordon was a bit like that too.

it’s not a matter of how many goals he scored, it’s a matter of replacing him with somebody more effective and I think that can happen without much difficulty.
This is a really great way to put it. He’s a very selfish player offensively. He pops up with a great goal here and there, and he’s fast, both of which are very valuable, but the rest of the time he consistently breaks down counter attacks. Richy could be that way sometimes too, especially in his last season with us.

He puts in enough effort defensively, but he’s not as robust as Dyche probably prefers for the wing (or up top for that matter). Dobbin might be able to realistically replace him based on preseason. We need another winger either way, though, hopefully the club is working on something.

Let's just get a good fee for him, 10 million seems cheap to me ......

I don't care what anyone says. It makes no sense to sell someone like Gray for relative peanuts of 10 million pounds when we'd need to replace him AND bring more attacking bodies in.

It just makes no sense. At all

Ideally we'd be swimming in options to replace him. How's that working out for us this window and windows past
Even though he won't be a regular starter and leaves for nothing in 12 months time ?

We got value for money for him

If we can make a profit on selling him and then replace him adequately, then I think all parties will have reason to be pleased
LOL

I'd like some of what you got, mate. I really, desperately want this to be true.

But there's a saying about sanity and expecting different results when the same things are done over and over again

This is the fear I have and it’s a catch 22. I don’t expect them to replace him if he goes, but we can’t buy anyone until the funds come in
Or we sell Gray and splash it on the likes of Che Adams or some other dross.

Just b/c we would bring money in, doesn't mean we'd buy someone better. In many cases, we'd settle for someone worse

Like Maupay

Exactly, the idea of having both Maupay and Adams on the books makes me sick because you KNOW one of them (most likely maupay) won’t play at all and will do what so many have done recently and sit on a pretty contract for years

It won’t be hard finding someone to sit on the bench and chip in with 2 goals a season
