Gutted we didnt get him, but other than the money I dont understand why he would go there as they`ve just sold their captain and 4 others likely to be on there way and have a rubbish manager.

Must be purely the money `cos they are a club in decline.

Thanks THT and the Good Catholic Reverend LCAB (Also my BFF) for the info. To be fair you give up a lot of time to do this stuff to keep us of the GOT Parish in the know.

**SAY NO TO BELL WHIFFS**

I'll put it in the financial context and club licencing context:

Both in football are imminently putting a downward pressure on player wages. This will only be realised when clubs stop paying over the odds for players.

If you "make an exception" and go for it, ALL the players want parity. Eventually the exception becomes the rule in the entire squad, and wages continue to go up.

If Newcastle feel that they can afford it (because they're basically selling players off) then so be it. They'll be broke again soon enough.

Long term its better for Everton if we strike the right balance. And payin £70k to a dodgy kneed striker isn't that!

Im not that bothered to be honest, i rate the lid, but after seeing his career goal scoring record - which isnt necessariy anythingbetter then what we have, his injury record and the fact he looked for 75 k a week - this one wasnt right for us.

If Newcastle are willing to pay him 75k a week - im amazed but not that surprised - this has all the hall marks of a Newcastle transfer - expect him to be at Stoke in the next two years.

Kieron Dyer style.

I agree.

This is it though isn't it - imho it's not worth upsetting the applecart, purely to bring some guy who may not even be so successful, jacking up wages and causing possible instability in the process. Sure it would have been nice to have him on our terms, but it's his loss and we move on.
Thanks as ever to THT and LCAB for keeping us in the loop as much as possible through this, however to me, the most important thing they've said is that he wasn't even a main target. He just popped up so would have been a nice bonus.... I'm just intrigued/looking forward to the main course!

It's not often I say this, but Damon's spot on.

Continuing to put it in the financial context and club licencing context:

If we continued an unrelenting increase in wages without revenue exceeding its' increase

eventually we'll find ourselves unable to play in Europe even if we qualify.

Newcastle were armed with the £35million Carroll (madness) wedge. We weren't. Simple.

The other issue is as well, what is their wage bill like? I suspect it's been lowered since they were in the championship, but if they sign these sorts of contracts and agents fees it'll soon be a mess again.

Because them paying Ba that much eventually could see them go the way of Aston Villa (and out of Europe).

So I'll say this.

Would you want to see Everton in Europe or out of it?

We've got a whole lot to juggle.

This board need to get turnover up. Said it once, say it again.

We spend far to much time looking at other clubs.

It,s about time we got our own house in order and control our OWN destiny.

We are off to the US next month. WE NEED A STRIKER BEFORE WE GO.

Disappointed we missed out here. No he may not have been our primary striking target (I hope!) but he would have been a welcome addition to the ranks. The only bonus here is we haven't given in to the demands of a player who overvalues his worth and followed the likes of West Ham and Newcastle in making this mistake, and also not feeding the scourge of football (agents) with their multi million pound 'sweeteners'!

I just hope whoever we do decide to offer the Ba money to turns out to be the right person for us.

It still irks me the way he was totally sold on us then went for the big bucks, but this is just further proof he wasn't our type of player.
