It will come as no surprise, but I had never heard of him, and only kept an eye on him cos of this thread. And that was only 15 mins or so.

You rate him?

Or indeed if Benitez will favour playing with wingbacks over a back 4.

We don't have a single decent winger at the club so unless we buy one we're going to struggle with any back 4 formation.

Would also explain White and Dumfries being the only heavily linked players

On paper that’s a very decent team. Problem is more that there’s no one on the bench, James will miss 20 odd games and I’d prefer only one of the slower CBs in a back three or Godfrey will have a bit too much recovery work on his hands.
Hoping for some more incoming…

Would need to replace one of Keane/Mina with a quicker CB and some more pace/energy in the midfield.

Would also consider cashing in on Richarlison as dont think he suits the two up top formation whatsoever.

If we keep everybody from last season the basis of a very good team is in place.
We lack pace..... which has been talked about constantly here and when James is injured we lack creativity.

A player like Dumfries would certainly add pace and I feel the constant talk about a new centre half may have substance to it because it seems to be a constant them since the end of last season.

I really would not be surprised if Mina were to leave.... but I am saying that based on nothing only my own feeling.

The sale of two or three players would certainly affect our ability to spend money from a FFP point of view which is important for a club that wants to play in Europe.

Agreed, think Carlo was too soft to tell him put up or shut up on the left or the right.

Ideally he plays anywhere in a front 3.

He's the kind of player that can do a job through the middle on his own if need be.

*Edit, don't think we should cash in myself. But agree I'm sick of him and DCL in a front 2.

People will laugh but Danny Ings would be a perfect partner for DCL as he suits the two up top formation with his link up play.

….I think you get more out of Digne from an attacking perspective as a conventional full back. He doesn’t look anywhere near as effective starting further up the pitch.

If we’re already playing ‘guess the starting line-up’ at this stage of the window, I really hope we don’t have 3 CBs, especially when two of them are as slow as old boats.

….like you, I’d not heard of him until we were linked but when I started watching clips I really liked his physicality. That level of athleticism and genuine pace is something we really need.

He had a surprisingly good tournament, it was difficult not to be impressed. Although I’m wary of outstanding performances at Euros, I’d be happy if he came in.
