Diesel transit help

Land-rover? Was reading the other day they're becoming a nightmare to insure (or some are) due to thefts.
Yeah, haven’t had any trouble yet but live in the middle of nowhere. I have more trouble with it being a temperamental pain in the ass. I’ve had a few but think this will be the last. Whoever decided to put computers in them has a lot to answer for.

Disco's have always been unreliable though? It's not down to computers.

Like I get it, it looks great, can go anywhere, but the diesel engines are horrible - general electrical/wiring harness issues, timing chain, coolant, injectors, etc. and that's from pretty much the Td5 to this day.

I had a Jeep Cherokee KJ (2.8L VM Motori diesel), fun to drive, proper 4x4, fast enough and all but 50/50 chance of going anywhere you've planned really - I've had it towed several times, several non-starts, injectors, vacuum hoses, crankshaft sensors, all small things but they persisted. In the end scrapped it and now drive a 2018 Peugeot 308 SW, 1.6 diesel, loving it despite the fact it's a diesel.

Anyway on to why, despite driving one, I dislike diesels - could be about 100 things with it, as it has roughly 10 sensors/valves that can do something minor and just be a bother. My dad had a transit and honestly when he got it (just out of warranty) so many little things went bad, but it was a company van at the time so it was fixed quickly.

In all honesty, despite it's obvious flaw of being a Ford, it's driven about half a mil kilometers and is still going. A proper workhorse that just needs you to be constantly on the lookout for things (or as was the case of the guy he sold it to - just be the mechanic for the truck for it's entire lifetime so you can know what's wrong with it).

Righty ... Anyone with experience of this issue who can point in the right direction....

Mk7 diesel transit, 2.4 l ... starts on the key and runs if key kept in the start position, but cuts out immediately on release. (People have suggested ignition switch) .... BUT

If I rev it before releasing the switch the van runs normally. Which is why I don't suspect the ignition switch. Could be wrong, but would like done reasoning.

Happens cold or warm.

Have tried sprinkling sawdust around obviously. Also I've put a bag of rice in the glove box overnight.
I'm having similar probs on a rover3500 V8, that I got out of a shed where it had been for 11 yrs.
Ive got this far - One of the feeds to the fuel pump is via the starter solenoid, one from the oil pressure switch (???) (and there may be yet another) - oh and there's some sort of relay involved
But I struggle with electrics if I can't hit it with a hammer, so that's as far as I've got

Try fire mate.
Always a good option

I had one of them! The fuse box in the passenger footwell is notoriously glitchy. One day at an MOT garage the brake lights weren't working (on the day), so me and the mot fella, after checking (and therefore disturbing) the fuses, jury rigged a solution. Then on the way home with my new MOT, first fuel pump, then indicators, then wipers all stopped working. All fixed by wiggling the fuse box again. Replace the fuse box would be my advice!

While poking around the engine bay listening for air leaks (none) and contemplating getting into the throttle body, I then went back into the cab. I turned the key a little and the engine cut out. The ignition switch (a tenner, thanks fleabay) is now my chief suspect.

Thanks for any suggestions so far, or in the future.
Just get GEM breakdown with the home start - they are the best cheapest breakdown company going IMO ....
My daughter, her boyfriend put diesel in her petrol car - AA charge an extra £180 to get in done roadside even if you are a member - GEM sent a specialist form out fixed & flushed it & added petrol on the roadside = Nothing - firms can charge up to £300 - for this procedure - it was dark & they took 40 minutes .... top firm for any breakdown & cheaper....
