Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

We don't have fully free NHS like Britannia, mate.

Insurance - yeah, I was surprised too. They can cover expenses made for medication if/when I get to that though, so that''s good I suppose.

Also FWIW insurance in America works kind of differently because of the whole set up.

It surprises me that something medical isn't covered by insurance.

Posted in here mid-season to get the ball rolling and I never really followed up or kept myself accountable.

Had a bit of a meltdown yesterday. Told by my boss at my first job that they're cutting hours and I'm going to be the first on the chopping block, despite having been in the job nearly 2 years longer than some of my co-workers. Second "job" (an internship) has notified me that the position I was completing the internship for in order to be promoted to, was no longer on offer to me and they'd outsourced another candidate (after 4 months of me working for free). Before telling me this, they got me to train this new person on how to complete the basic tasks of the job as I assumed it was just another intern coming in.

Got home and had an argument with my younger brother about him not helping do anything around the house (we've been living with my elderly Grandparents and they can't do a lot of the things that need doing). We then got into a scuffle and then I drove off. Ended up an hour from home parked near a river punching myself in the head so hard I vomited and passed out. Woke up a few hours later and somehow drove myself home.

Feel awful for taking it out on him, my Grandparents having to witness it and even worse for trying to bludgeon myself.

Girlfriend came over and had a long talk with her but seemed to go around in circles. I know I need to see someone professional but I'm petrified of being sent somewhere and my brother not looking after my Grandparents.

Hello. In a nutshell your boss has to tell you why he is selecting you as opposed to anybody else. What is the business reason why it is you and not somebody else. You need to find out if it is a permanent change - in which case you will need a new contract of employment or a temporary one. If it's temporary and you accept the changes , you should accept on the condition that it is temporary. This link from CAB is really good Reduced Hours

If you are a unionised workplace they should be consulting with the Trade Union before they do anything. Speak to a Union Rep and also have a look at claiming any Tax credits you may be entitled to. Just as an aside do you claim anything for caring for your Grandparents, you should be able to get something. It used to be called Attendance allowance but it's probably rolled up with Universal Credit now. This is another good link More on reduced hours

Hope this helps.

That was a tough read mate, but nowhere near as tough as what you're going through.

I really just wanted to say something about your last sentence though. Others have jumped in about other matters...

Knowing the current trend in Governments, I don't think they'd send you away for what you wrote. Certainly here in Oz, they shut down most places like that for 'cost cutting' reasons!

I would recommend getting in to see someone and the reason is that you are still at a point where it's not too late to try to get this sorted before it becomes a bigger issue, or worse still, where it gets to a point that you stop questioning your actions.I would recommend going for the very reasons mentioned, that you are 'petrified', and because your Grandparents & Brother need you. Despite saying that, it's not about them though, their care & support is secondary to your care & support, but they will benefit from a better you.

Take care mate.
