Old as f. Turns like a bus, doesn't like being told to not just hoof it up field. Uses his right foot for nothing but standing on. Was in terrible form, responsible for too many goals and rightly dropped. Be very lucky at 54 to be playing in the top flight next season.

I may have this totally wrong mate so genuine apologies if so but are you saying that Leighton Baines, life-long evertonian, vice-vice captain, 30 year old scouser...etc etc refused to play in the Merseyside Derby?

The same Baines that has repeatedly told everyone he thinks that the players are to blame for our general cr@pness this season?

Come on, you're better than this.

And plus, in his defence, it's not as if those 8 losses are all down to costly individual errors. The team has been a bit pants

But he has been fit and available on the bench for many more - the post I was replying to made it sound like he had spent almost the entire time injured.

Personally think he is perfectly fine for the role he was brought for - 4th choice CB as even the rich six hardly have superb players in thar position. And as @mkrudden has pointed out it hasn't It isn't as if he has been heading in own goals in each of thise matches like he did away at S'ton last year.

Only relaying what i was told mate, im not sure if i believe he refused out of spite to martinez or maybe there could of been something genuine or even family reasons behind his mini break. The guy called it well before the team news come out so of course eye brows were raised. The reason i was told was because he was fed up with the tactics, i didnt see much of palace but i was told we got very lucky and bobby should of tried to get a foot hold in the game via tactics or substitutions.

From what i know about Baines and his family through my family connections, Baines loves Everton and has even missed funerals etc to play for us when people close to his family have died - some other players couldnt do it but baines has, even paid for a family member of his mates service etc... i hold nothing against the man, love seeing him play for us.
