Dmitri Payet's ankle: an obituary.

You just know that the words 'McCarthy', 'Everton' and lots of hate has been spouted in that West Ham end today.

Hahahahaha.

No matter if he was playing or not, they still have James Tomkins.

We were restoring order. West Ham aren't ready for a player of that caliber. We took him out and sobered them up for thier own good they were getting drunk and obnoxious. Still a distasteful hanger in thier fume at us but it's to be expected.

Are they STILL complaining about this?

It was a freaking accident FFS!
As of Saturday, yes.

James McCarthy's 'nasty' tackle on Dmitri Payet was overlooked because it happened to a West Ham player, says Slaven Bilic

  • West Ham forward will miss three months after great start to the season
  • Slaven Bilic believes the tackle should have received more attention
  • West Ham says it would be 'headline story' if Arsenal or Tottenham player
  • The Hammers face Spurs on Sunday in their first game without Payet

Slaven Bilic believes the ‘nasty’ tackle that put Dimitri Payet out of action for three months was glossed over because it happened to a West Ham player.

Payet, who had made an outstanding start to life at Upton Park, suffered a serious ankle injury following a heavy challenge by Everton midfielder James McCarthy in their 1-1 draw on November 7.

And the Hammers manager - who yesterday challenged his players to step up and compensate for the influential Frenchman’s absence - claimed the tackle would have been headline news had it happened in the Arsenal vs Tottenham derby that same weekend.

Slaven Bilic said it would be difficult for West Ham against Tottenham without their 'best player'

Writing in his Evening Standard column, Bilic said: ‘It was a nasty tackle but I didn’t see people talk much. The media did not make a lot of it but that is because it happened to West Ham.

‘It would be the same if it was Stoke or Aston Villa, with the greatest respect to the players of those teams.

‘If that tackle had been in the Arsenal versus Spurs game that took place on the same weekend, it would have been the headline story everywhere. I was surprised that it was only us talking about it.

‘That kind of tackle should not be allowed. Football is better in this respect than it was 20 years ago.

‘Those tackles happened more back then so FIFA, UEFA, the English FA and the referees are protecting the players more but they still happen and that is wrong.’

West Ham visit rivals Spurs on Sunday with the sides locked on 21 points just below the top four in the Barclays Premier League table and Bilic admitted losing Payet, who has five goals and three assists so far, was a ‘big blow.’

The West Ham boss said that Payet, who has five goals this season and three assists, would be a big miss

He said: ‘West Ham is not just Dimitri Payet but he is our best player and the most important player. We’re going to miss him, it’s a big blow for us.

‘To be honest, it is difficult to replace him. That’s why he’s Payet, he’s one of those players who makes the team better by 10, 20 or 50 per cent.

‘But we are not only Payet, we have a lot of quality players and the players who are going to play have to share that little bit, they have to step up and do more for us to feel his absence less.’

Bilic referenced his two dogs, Khan and Yoko, while explaining that he understood the significance of this fixture to Hammers fans.

He said: ‘You have all West Ham fans working with Spurs fans. It is a good thing when you win because you can’t wait to go to work and tease them. If you lose, it’s not very pleasant.

‘In my apartment, we are all West Ham. I don’t think my dogs are Spurs fans, but I will check it. This morning they looked at me a little bit differently!’

I would counter that the only reason this is still getting column inches is because James McCarthy plays for Everton

If he played for Liverpool or Man United, this would have been brushed under the carpet long ago
