It was clearly an accident. I'd say the same if one of our players got injured from the same challenge

It was hardly Gentile tackling the crap out of Marradonna in 1982 or Portugese players orchestrating a concerted effort to kick Pele out of the game in 1966

This was McCarthy going for a ball he had every right to go for and accidentally clocking Payet. It happens all the time and the only reason this is still being talked about is because it was an Everton player who did it. Arsenal, United or Liverpool player does this and it would be dead and buried as a news story by now. Clubs like Stoke and Everton get held to different scrutiny due to inbuilt bias in news reporting

Agree with that Mikey, i still think even without the injury he was going to badly fade after a good start anyway though, bye bye West Ham, good luck fighting it out with the likes of Stoke and Swansea this season
