Which is why I'm saying it won't work currently until the owner and fraud of a 'chairman' step away from what realistically shouldn't be their business. If the DoF works with Dyche to get who they both agree would be a good fit - yeah, it makes sense. Otherwise - nevermind what the DoF does, it will get devalued instantly by someone going and doing something else.

Brands wanted Potter by the way, to model a youthful team competing in a few years.... According to him we could've gotten Potter at the time, but instead went for Ancelotti as the owners liked him and the rest I already posted above. With the power of hindsight we know he's not doing great at Chelsea, but at Brighton he was doing well, so it wasn't completely bonkers as it would be now lol

So to answer the OP: we could use one, but we should probably just have a good head scout/tech director at this point and with this setup.

It’s interesting isn’t it mate, what fits elsewhere and doesn’t at Everton. You’d get to the point where you say - it’s pointless having a DOF, because it won’t be effective.

I got there with signing and developing young players, we do it so badly and waste so much investment may as well sign the Coadys, Idrissas and JTs of this world.

Good old Everton - beat down, existing in our own parallel universe! ;)

I think out of all our recent "older" transfers maybe Tarkowski is the only one I like, but that's a whole different discussion I think lol

We have no youth recruitment honestly, as I said I trust Brands tried, we seem to have gotten a few youngsters during his time, some worked out, some didn't, some might still as they've got time, but... yeah, disappointing.

I can absolutely see how Brands wanted to sign youngster X, Y and Z for a decent price and being stopped because we need to balance the books to get Delph in for 10m and a huge wage or something lol

….so every available striker on the globe for TWO windows was ‘Deadwood’. What utter nonsense you post. instead, he spent £15m on Maupay. Everything suggests Thelwell is an imposter.

So, you think ‘Kev knew we had enough to stay up’ - again what a nonsense statement given the position we are in. A good DoF would ensure we had enough in key positions to ensure we didn’t struggle.

The game is all about opinion and we respect each others views except when they border on blatant ignorance.

Pure delusion that you think Everton was an attractive destination in January for anyone, look at the table and what's been going on.

We don't need a DOF under this owner and board, the more layers between them and the manager, the worse it is.

Under new, competent ownership, a DOF can come in and play an important role.
 

We use to have Elstone who would negotiation deals with players / agents / teams.

DB is uselss and would have no clue on the above hence why we have had a DOF
 
My guess is that unless you manage to get a decent one, they can do as much damage as good at a club with limited means.

The damage could be longer lasting than a poor manager too.

So, a pretty important appointment then !
