For reasons completely alien to me this seems to be quite an emotive subject so I’m happy to leave it there. I have absolutely no interest either way in whether individuals watch Liverpool, I was just saying I can understand neilers point that completely avoiding their games for years may seem a little over the top in some cases. That doesn’t mean everyone who doesn’t watch them is obsessive - as I already said - but I can see the logic behind what he’s saying.

That's fine. The thing is though, if you look through the thread, you'll find loads of people saying they watch them because they like footy, and loads of people saying they watch them to cheer on the other team. I've not seen one person pull anybody up, or say anything questioning to the posters who do watch.

Those of us who don't watch have been accused of outright lying by Dave (I know, I know) and and now we're being called obsessed.

Anyway, Kopites are gobshites, utft.

Not a chance. Never in a million years would I watch them. I'm certain that I've been in a pub when they had a game on more then once but I had no idea that they where playing when I arrived and for the life of me I couldn't tell you when it was, who they played or what the score was because I completely blocked it all out and just carried on talking to my mates as if the game wasn't on.

Honestly its not even all down to my hatred for them anymore. Its the sport in general. Football is an absolute broken, embarrassment of a sport in 2022 and has been for years. There's absolutely no way that I'd ever subject myself to more of it then I have to. I watch the blues games now (because despite seeing the game for exactly what It is I just can't bring myself to walk away from the club) and the very occasional neutral game if there's nothing else on tv but that's it. If I wanted to watch endless hours of a scripted drama show that portrays itself as a legitimate sport then I'd just watch WWE because at least that doesn't take itself seriously.

Used to live with flatmates who had footy on all the time so couldn't avoid it every time. Same with the pub, might be on but wouldn't intentionally set out to watch them.

To be honest, I only watch Everton. Wouldn't go out of my way to watch any other team, other than perhaps, a lower league game if going with mates.

Why would anyone willingly become another consumer propping that lot up? Your sky/bt subscription is going straight into their pockets and they get a far bigger chunk of the pie than we will ever get.

This mainly. Generally won't actually leave the room if someone has it on and I ahve a reason to be there, but would watch out of active choice. Only really watch other teams if it's an interesting match/good team or I can't ffwd MotD.

This is the bit that seems to be confusing some people, and I can't quite see why.

I don't actively go out of my way to watch their games, I just have no major aversion to watching them when they're on. If they're playing Norwich at home and are likely to win 8-0 then I would tend not to watch it because I wouldn't find it enjoyable. If they're playing in a game that is likely to be decent and I have the opportunity to watch it then I will. I have sports channels because I like watching sport, refusing to pay for sports channels because some of the money they make ends up in the hands of Liverpool's owners would be the exact type of weird over the top behaviour I was talking about earlier.

What about people who pay for sports channels but don't click on the channel saying "Liverpool vs ..."?

That's fine, obviously. I was responding to a specific point questioning why people would have sports channels because it ends up with money going to Liverpool. Your example is absolutely nothing to do with that and so is - once again - completely irrelevant.

I don't know if you're confused about my stance on this because you seem determined to try and trip me up. I have no strong feelings either way on people who watch Liverpool games. I was genuinely surprised to find that actively not watching them was a thing because I have never come across someone in real life who has admitted to doing that, and I'm therefore quite interested in the discussion, but I am perfectly happy for people to make their own decision on what they would like to watch on TV.
