There’s certainly something to be said about a group that is disappointed in going from losing to Iceland one summer to a World Cup semi final the next tournament and looking at it as a poor performance!

2016 was a shocking underperformance and not the barometer. Terrible example.

Sean Dyche has overachieved as Everton manager (11th without points deduction) because recent history shows we’re a crap relegation battling side that finishes 16th and we need to remember who we are and where we’ve come from.

Do you agree?
For maybe the millionth time club football is different but if we’re just looking strictly at results, which to be absolutely clear is not something you should do in the club game but is more acceptable in the international arena where everything is a one off (or thereabouts), yes Dyche overachieved last season.

Ok cool. Got that one logged so that I can return to it next season when you try and shift the goalposts on that one.

My issues with Dyche aren’t the results for now, but you’ll probably be aware by now I’m not only focused on that. We need to score more goals for one, and as someone whose teams have never prioritized that I have concerns.

Erm. Yes. Losing to Iceland was an underperformance. What an absolutely bizarre thing to suggest.
They should have beaten Iceland but again look at what England usually do. You’re not wanting to give Southgate credit for taking care of business when he should time and time again yet tournament on tournament that used to not happen.

I don’t believe that Southgate is getting this over the hump btw. But he deserves an immense amount of credit and praise for taking historic underachievers and making them a team where not winning feels like underachievement. He’s completely changed the trajectory of things. Not alone mind, but he’s in charge and deserves the credit that comes with it.

Oh so NOW you’re not only focusing on results. Now we’re discussing Sean Dyche’s performance suddenly you want to dig deeper and analyse the style of football, patterns of play and such. Right.

Gareth Southgate has come into this tournament trying to fit players in, and not playing players in their natural position. He hasent adapted his style of play. No plan B. Decided to experiment with Trent in midfield during a tournament when he's had 2 years to find a regular DM.
Probably best not to jump the gun in case things turn around but it feels a little bit like he's lost it this year. Performances have mostly been poor and his squad selection for this tournament feels weird. But lets see

Fella is just absolutely clueless about the sport and that’s fine to admit. Has no idea what he’s watching unfold in front of him on the pitch.

Matches won by Sven in international tournaments for England;

Argentina
Denmark
Croatia
Switzerland
Paraguay
Trinidad and Tobago
Ecuador

Knockout matches in major tournaments won by England from 1970 - 2016

Paraguay
Belgium
Cameroon
Denmark
Ecuador
Spain

Wow. Fair play. With a vastly worse team than what Southgate has too.
But you have to use the same caveat for that that you use for England's win over Germany at the last Euros, i.e. that it was a poor version of their usual selves. Arg tanked in the group stage at that WC

I think it is very reasonable to look at club football and international football differently
