Does the club need 'rebranding'? Something based around the new location?

I'm a traditionalist, I don't want to see our badge radically altered, it has too much historical resonance for me.

I'd be open to the addition of something contemporary to it to reflect this huge new chapter in our story, but alongside our famous tower and not replacing it.

100%, we’ve been at a huge disadvantage for too long with our current branding.

Most fans around the world don’t know Everton is in Liverpool.

It’s been a massive disadvantage
and neglect ted for too long.

Be a really difficult thing to balance it now.
I don't understand this.

For example let's take the biggest cultural export of the city - The Beatles. The fact they are from Liverpool wasn't what gave them worldwide fame. Being from Liverpool or known to be from Liverpool was entirely academic and didn't give them an advantage. Cindy Lou from Albany wasn't refusing to buy their records then changing her mind once she learned they were from Liverpool.

It makes no difference whatsoever to a broader fanbase that Everton are based within the City of Liverpool. Winning, style and famous players are what markets football clubs, not their specific location.

Someone with more local knowledge will know way more than me about the specific links but from a geographical viewpoint isn't the distance between BMD and Ruperts Tower pretty much the same as from Goodison?

No mate. The Beatles give Liverpool brand recognition and association and or vice versa. I dont think anyone said the Beatles being from Liverpool made them famous, but Liverpool is more famous because of the Beatles.

It actually does make a difference, in the field of sports marketing Sports teams that can be identified from particular geographical area are easier to gain brand recognise, we're talking world wide here. I dont think its be accident clubs like Man City, Newcaslte and Leeds were taken over before we were while we looking for ownership investment.

Sure winning, style and famous players helps - but Man U who currently have neither of these things and didnt before Ferguson will always have more brand loyalty and recognition then say a Chelsea. Many multiple reasons for that not just not just the pieces we are talking about.

Go back to the OP.

This is nothing to do about changing the clubs name, it's about harnessing the location we now find ourselves at to put our best foot forward.

It's already been done with the branding of the stadium roof - which is the iconic part of the build. 'The Wave' is the Mersey imprinted on the home of the club. So it's not exactly an outlandish suggestion, is it?

Now we need to extend that river branding into other ways to promote the club.

There isn't a brand consultant in the world that wouldn't agree...but yeah, let's use the name of Liverpool in everything we produce in a forlorn attempt to reclaim the name from a globally known football club called...erm....Liverpool.
Yes very good Dave all logical but this is about passion and history … leave the name alone

As an aside (and I can't be bothered hunting for a more relevant thread) a change of kit supplier would help massively.

I know they're not a current 'premium' brand but Hummel made a much better job of it than castore. At the expense of doing a little sick in my mouth their designs and promos had a more compelling narratives than the load of old tut castore have knocked up and this season they've completely looked a gift horse in the mouth with a severe lack of specific last season at goodison merch.

Think most of the terrace lids would fancy Adidas, their retro third kits and the casual wear with the proper trefoil logos are really good.

Unfortunately though with their association and deal with the other lot i don't see it happening.

My personal pick would be puma as apparently nike are pivoting away from football.

If you were clever you can also feed the marketing narrative that puma and Adidas are family rivals much like Evertonians and kopites. Plus looking at city they also do decent retro casual wear.

Ultimately this is it but we shouldn't be shy and brow beaten about out standing within British football.

We were part of the building blocks that built the game in England...not Liverpool,But Everton.

Only last week you had Marco Silva telling the Portuguese press that were "a fascinating club"

We're an incredible club.
In fairness, Marco Silva did allude to the fact that only 4 clubs have won the league as many times as we have. Indeed, Man City only caught up with us the other year. We've also played in 13 FA Cup finals.

Our name is a problem when it comes to exposure and marketing. I remember Tim Sherwood saying that he couldn't believe that so many people openly wore Everton shirts in Liverpool, as if Everton was some sort of rival city to Liverpool, a la Pompey/Southampton. And he's played at Goodison and Anfield! It's a big problem. However, our new stadium on the Liverpool waterfront should help with all that to some degree.

We weren’t taken over because of BK.

Arsenal do just fine. Villa are bigger than Birmingham City. People who know about football know that Everton is in Liverpool. Those that don’t, well, frankly who cares. We aren’t making money from them regardless.

Horrible term 'rebranding' like, but you can bet the new owners will have been thinking along these lines. I can imagine them thinking:

"Gee, we're named after a district in Liverpool while Liverpool take the whole city? How do we look to improve this...?"

Regardless of what TFG may or may not be thinking, I wonder if there's big opportunity to right a historic wrong here, given we now sit slap bang on the banks of the Mersey?

Positioning the club (accurately) as Merseyside's club has to be something we look at to get the club back to where we were - the premier club in the locality.

Not a name to change to Merseyside FC, of course. That'd be absurd. The name Everton is sacrosanct. But we could use something to do with 'Merseyside' to replace the 'People's Club' pitch that's now fallen into disuse.

Thoughts?
It should be (Sponsors name) Royal Blue Mersey Stadium. Our strapline could be The Originals
