Oh absolutely agreed, just putting my thoughts in.I am inclined to agree. One should have to pass a test before getting a dog licence.
That is really tragic though
Obviously horrible for the people, doesn't even need to be said...

Always seems to be one of those two. Clearly something with the breed although I have to say the people who tend to buy those dogs usually arent the best owners.Just checked. A Staff or Pit Bull apparently. Not a breed that I would have near a 17 month old. God bless the poor family.
Mate, as posted earlier the only bite my daughter got in nearly 25 years was from a friend's Westie. I was bitten by an Irish Setter as a kid. Never a problem with GSDs....well except they don't like other yappy dogs especially JRs.Oh absolutely agreed, just putting my thoughts in.

Yea its horrific and I'm not blaming them, just observing that pitbulls are often bought by certain people because of their reputation.Problem is its hard to define what some dogs are.
When people refer to a dog as a Pitbull for example, do you mean an American Pitbull Terrier or a Pitbull "type" dog.
Staffys
American Staff Terriers
American Pitbull Terriers
American Bulldog
American Bullys
Bull terriers
Various bulldog types
All often mixed into certain dogs / labelled as "pitbulls".
Growing up our family pet was a Staffy - was a great dog but obviously the breeds history means they need a firm hand / training.
I have a Doberman at the moment - she's boss but still would never leave her alone with my young lad even though he's old enough to know how to act around her.
Shame for the family not the right time for people to play the blame game. Have to remember dogs can turn in a split second.
My GSD liked or got along with anyone (he lived with a smaller breed with no problem), other than a St. Bernard, but I believe that was because it was just a physically bigger dog - they'd bark at each other when one walked past the other's house, but on the streets just avoid looking at eachother; like the nod of respect you give to colleagues haha.Mate, as posted earlier the only bite my daughter got in nearly 25 years was from a friend's Westie. Mate, that is surprising. We have never worried about any GSD with our daughter. Quite the opposite. As posted earlier, our first GSD persistently came in to my wife after our toddler had fallen off her trike.Problem is its hard to define what some dogs are.

Mate, this is why am constantly arguing that owners should be licensed not the dogs. To get a licence should require passing a test for ability to own and control a dog. I am horrified at the death of that baby. Not all "dangerous breed" dogs are owned by d!ckheads, but d!ickheads always seem to own a "dangerous breed" dog.

Are Staffs more single owner than family pack?
A GR???? Blinking hell. We had a Lab Retriever who was rescued. Absolutely zero aggression. Very impressive dog but great with the family and visitors.Got a bad bite through a Biker's jacket once from a Golden Retriever we rehomed. All breeds of dog are dangerous if treated wrongly or badly. It was too far gone and tried to attack every dog on sight. Very sad.
From what we were told, he had been tied up all the time. It was a long time ago when there weren't any dog rescue places around here so it was just on the word of a friend that it needed a home. It just went for any other dog without warning. I was getting him out of the car when an adolescent GS and his owner were passing. Went straight for it's back. I tried to protect the pup and chomp! I should have been more aware, to be honest. It had attacked other dogs before.A GR???? Blinking hell. We had a Lab Retriever who was rescued. Absolutely zero aggression. Very surprised that a a GR would do that. Must have had a rubbish early life
