2018/19 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Half of Tosun’s shots come in situations he should be passing. We have zero good options up top. DCL at least can win a header and moves around a bit so that’s something I suppose.

Defoe is another striker that shoots when he should pass as are a lot of other strikers. I would rather shots on goal and then hopefully they will start going in. Running around is something bent done, the straq, Shane long etc. also Tusons knock downs actually go to our players unlike DRKSSDL

Try and ship him out to Villa when the other lanky cart horse goes to Wolves

Imagine... "Bolasie on the wing. Calvert-Lewin is in the middle trying to not be seen.... Bolasie does 3 step-overs, looks up... Calvert-Lewin peels off the back post to find space where the cross will never go... Still Bolasie.... ah fk this, lets go and drink bleach"

I can’t believe the criticism he gets personally. He’s improved a lot since he came and gets better every season. He’s better than Niasse and Tosun who have big money wasted on them and ok he’s not good enough to lead the line yet but if a club needs 3 strikers he’s certainly good enough for one of those spots. Do we want to develop young players or not? People have this attitude towards them that if they’re not immediately ace then get rid of them. Let’s see what he’s like when he’s 23 and then make a decision.

My guess is that he’ll be marginally better than he is now. So absolutely nowhere near good enough then.

I’d rather he get his head up and make the correct play to put a teammate in for a better chance.

Tuson being shot happy is a side effect of him not playing and wanting to stake a claim, he doesn’t get many games and wants to force his way in, Silva should tell whoever is playing up top thatbthey have 5 games or whatever to impress so it takes the pressure off imo. When your getting 30 mins every other week it puts pressure to perform or in Tusons case , score and can have a negative effect on the players choices, performance and ultimately the team and results

People always say this but imagine the fume if he stunk the gaff out for 4 games and Silva came out and said 'Soz lads I've got to pick him again next week because I promised'. It's ridiculous. If you can't cope with the pressures of having to perform then you're not suited to top level football, it's literally part of the job. There's also the fact that the reason Tosun found himself on the bench in the first place is he'd only managed 1 goal in his last 12 starts for us - all consecutive games and including 5 without a goal this season.

Tosun makes bad decisions because he's not very good, not because he's desperate to get back into the team. If he really is desperate to get back into the team, he should probably try looking remotely interested when he gets on the pitch, rather than milling round waiting for a tap in.

Anyway, this is the DCL thread, so I'll finish by saying he's not very good either.

I know it’s part of the job but you can’t tell me that it doesn’t add pressure because it does, and if he doesn’t score for 4 games or played crap then he’s exactly the same as most of our players over the past 12 games, he seems to have no problem picking Walcott does he and he’s been gash for ages .

Of course it adds pressure, I've literally just said that. But he's now been here for a year and has failed to produce the goods when starting and when coming on as a sub, so what can we do? In fact, if it wasn't for a three game spell in March, he'd be going down as the worst signing we've ever made, and that's no exaggeration.

I think you may well be right but we don't know that yet. He hasn't progressed enough this season that's for sure. But I still think he's worth a place in the squad as our 3rd choice behind Richarlison and a proper first choice striker. Our problem is not DCL. Our problem is Tosun has proved himself not good enough to be first choice and he needs replacing. Once again we've had to push DCL into the fore before he's ready and, like with Davies, it's not really doing him any favours.

No real pace, not strong enough, no real hold/link up play, not particularly skilful, nowhere near clinical enough, apologies sounds like a character assignation on the lad,I've really wanted him to make it with us but he falls way, way short of what we need/require to progress,I think he will always make a living from the game just not with us.

Nail on the head that. The deficiencies of proper professional footballers means that a young players footballing education has to be fast tracked to fill the gap. No surprise there are gaps to his game.
