I do stick up for Dom but when he plays like that against a struggling Championship team, he deserves flack, those types of CBs are the bread and butter of football, need to be physical with them and he simply wasn't

He`d better get used to that type of CB, as hopefully he`ll be playing against them permanently lol

I've said he's a young lad learning on many occasions and i stand by it but it doesn't mean I don't want to see improvement, heart and desire, he's got the beach muscles but they're not a jot of good if you can't use them effectively.

He needs to start showing more but again, it's not his fault he finds himself our number 1 striker, he's been chucked in the deep end and to be fair he is treading water, that unfortunately isn't what we need right now. He'll come good, I hope.

I know what you mean but this is where I disagree when it comes to players like him. We have to forget where we bought him from and for how much, and just deal with the fact that he is now a fully paid up member of our first team. He's been playing PL football for over 2 years now, and if reports are to be believed he is very much on PL wages. It's not any of the players 'fault' that they're in the first team in that sense, but let's be clear that he's not a 17 year old spotty kid from the academy who everybody knows will never make it but has just got to play because we're short (like Chadwick/Agard/McAleny etc before him), he has to be judged as a first teamer because he is one.

That's totally fair, although given the age, there has to be some space for improvement, it's not out of the question that in the next couple of seasons he will find consistency and better form...or...he simply doesn't get any better, which a lot are already sold on. I'm just one of these lids who has seen enough lads come from absolutely nowhere to be good players in their mid 20's.

I hold out hope for our youngsters rather than holding this stubborn belief they WILL make it, I'm the same as anyone, if they ain't performing they shouldn't be in the team. I'm just not as quick to write them off.

I think DCL needs to start showing more now, he's played a lot of top flight games, albeit here there and everywhere. He needs a position now and start progressing.

Just look what Rooney had achieved at 22. At 16 he'd not have been terrified either waiting to emerge from the tunnel against Millwall on Saturday. 22 years of age is an age where you've made it or not. Yes always room for improvement I agree but 22 is not a baby in football terms any more.

Rooney was a phenom, handful of players ever are that good at 16/17, Pele, Ronaldo(R9) prob others but it's a very short list, if that's what standard you are holding the academy to, you're in for disappointment.

We've had many lads break through and been true first teamers over the years at 22 and less haven't we.

I'm not having a go at Lewin and it's only my opinion but I don't think he'll ever be the decent striker we'd wish him to be or become an Everton great. I agree with your comments about Rooney though, a freak really. He was classed as well seasoned at 20 lol

Yeah but the point being, players develop at different rates, growing pains, body changes, finding best positions. You have some who fly out of the blocks at teen years and others that don't hit their stride untilmid 20s it's just the way it is.

I agree Bernie re. development rates and we've not got much else to choose from at this moment to keep Lewin from getting game time in to help him develop. It's just my hunch the lad isn't good enough now for top flight premiership football and never will be.

I don't agree, when I look at all the srtikers outside the top 7 not many are better than DCL. He will more than likely be at this level his career, whether he can reach the next level is more the question and so for me the jury is still out. Although the more games he plays at this level the more I need to see from his all round game.

Yep, the jury is out. As I say the thing in Lewins favour is the competition he has got at present in the squad is going to give him a lot of opportunites and game time for the rest of the season to show his worth. He'll be pushing 23 then so the jury can realistically then make a call. My worry was he looked timid and just not up for it in the tunnel last Saturday and his display backed this up. He looked like he was hiding from the ball. If you acted like that in the old Liverpool County Combination league you'd be found out and then called out. However I'd love to eat these words Bernie!
