He was, but he was also one of the reasons we hit some very poor runs of form during his spell, because we didn’t carry enough threat.

I’ve been really impressed with DCL’s improvement this season, and I’ve said before even if he never gets any better he’s a good squad player for us to have for years. Goals really are important though. He doesn’t need to be prolific, but he needs to become a bit more of a threat if he’s going to be first choice striker for a team looking to be higher than eighth. Being a nuisance against the top sides is great, but you’ve got to be bagging in the games where we’re actually on top.

I think that's the next step now, how does he create space and chances against teams who sit deep and defend. I just like watching what I'm seeing at the moment and if he's best utilised against teams that come to attack, then we need to find the type that can create for themselves and get themselves that extra yard against those teams that defend deep.

Get him off on a lads holiday to Thailand in the summer to practice his slotting. As soon as he's back in pre-season training hope he's improved on his 'finishing' skills and can be more of a threat next season.

Completely agree but I also don’t think he’s good enough yet to be counted on to lead the line next season. Great as an option but not the main man just yet. Would he be getting meaningful minutes for any team in the top 6? No. Folks saying he’s as good as Rom are being silly.

The gap between 6th and 7th is 18 points . It’s a massive gap and one that requires our striker to score Imo. It’s not just one league placing it’s almost like breaking into another league

based on his goalscoring record in the prem?
based on him being his countries higher ever goal scorer ( I think? )
based on him scoring at a few world cups/euros?
based on him scoring double the goals DCL has this season in which is being described as his worst season?

DCL is more all rounded, gives the team more and I think he CAN be better, but to suggest it is a fact he is a better player now is ridiculous.

united was all wrong for lukaku, he is only one thing a top slotter, he won't hold the ball up run into channels create goals etc, he just scores when he gets chances in around the box,. would have him back in a heartbeat

As long as goals come from all over the team, and we are winning if any CF upfront is causing the problems for those goals to go in its great - Silva has hit a system too late, Richarlinton in front of Coleman - Bernard in front of Deighn - a midfield with a drive - and a no 10 who can create, and score - apart from Fulham away we have looked a top four side form wise as DCL as led the line - I think the goals will come from him in the future - he has come on physically, his hold up play is brilliant - he diverts running the channels, and the pace he has is such an asset with his workrate we now defend from the front........
The defence has a much easier job that way......

Based on the fact that you wouldn't play lukaku ahead of DCL in our side. Simple as that.

He's got 20+ goals once in 9 seasons in the prem.

Yeah ok mate, i'm not happy with 7th place but hey I said from the start we need to show patience with Silva and some of the players none more so than DCL, he's carried the weight of our attack single handed for 2 seasons now he's developing fine IMO and in tune with the team as a whole and I'd rather have him and his developing armoury of talent and hunger for improving than Lakaku who doesn't make the most of his attributes and won't get any better because he's got ideas above his station and he thinks he's the finished article.
Let's hope for measurable improvement all round next season and it would help if some fans gave encouragement instead of slagging off the players at every given opportunity.

DCL is a class player. Will be top drawer. Provides us so much and gives plenty of assistance to R9 and Iceman. Look forward to him leading the line for many years to come.

He's got 20+ goals once in 9 seasons in the prem.

but overall inc cups and Europe, he has hit 20+ goals in EACH of the last 4 seasons.

to put into context what you're saying, lukaku has more prem goals THIS season alone than DCL has ever scored so how can you say it's a fact he's better now?

think lukaku will leave united in the summer and do well wherever he goes, and let's be honest when/if he does go it'll be to another top team
