2019/20 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

That headed clearance though lol

My lad showed me the header he missed, then he tried to defend it by saying Lewin was leaning back so couldn't get any direction on it (as you can guess he thinks Lewin's a good player) I just thought too myself, god, I've brought up my son to be a massive tool.

The other thing that gets on my nerves is how Lewin never uses the pace of the ball when he's heading it, a ball can be fizzed in and it literally just hits his head and drops like a bag of cement.

DCL has probably heaped more pressure on himself by taking the number 9 shirt. I personally think at the minute he's our best option that's not to say when Kean gets up to speed it won't change. He needs to play in a team that creates chances and we don't create that many. He works hard but if no one else steps up then that hard work goes to nothing. If we could have moved Tosun and Niasse on we could have maybe brought in another more experienced striker but for now its the 2 young lads. Richarlison is an option but we need him on the wing.

It worked out in the end but he genuinely just cleared it. I think he offers a good amount but bloody hell that was bad.

He was very poor yesterday. He's got no instinct. There was a bit in the first half where Bernard flashed a great low cross into the area but DCL never looked to get to the front post. He needs it drilling into him because he'll never improve his goalscoring if he doesn't do that.

He missed loads of chances yesterday...

eh no...not one decent centre or pass. He led the line well and looked strong in the air but if Gilfi
or Digne can't pick him out then he's nothing to work on. I thought the team was weaker when he went off.

Lets play Keane and DCL against Watford and go for the long ball against their slowish central defenders.

Personally I would go for a front 3 of Iwobi, Kean and Richarlison, leave DCL on the bench.

Exactly, anticipate the space, read the pass, always look for half a yard advantage, Attack the ball. He will find himself in many more shooting opportunities just by doing these.

Why is it “hard not to abuse him”? It should be very easy not to abuse him ffs.

Pathetic thing to say
What you say is, of course, basically correct. The problem is that when a player isn't good enough, but is selected week after week and does the same things wrong every week, then it's easy to direct your frustration at him. Obviously, this isn't right because any frustration should be aimed at management. It is, however, human nature to have a go at whatever is in front of you rather than the less concrete 'management'. Not saying it's ok to give in to the temptation - just saying it's natural to be tempted.

Apology accepted.

No one else.So 3 teams, I watched loads where the centre backs had the. Afternoon off.

Well there were more, Cardiff for one. However against 3 of the top 6 teams last season when he got back in he caused enormous difficulties for.

There are legitimate criticisms of Calvert Lewin (not least that he's not enough of a flat track bully) but there has to be an acknowledgement that his all-round game is substantially beyond what Niasse's is. I'm not even anti-Niasse. He has his uses and works hard, but is a very poor footballer at this level, but finds a way to score goals. However he's a long way behind the all-round game of Calvert Lewin.

DCL is a championship striker at best, why is he regularly playing in a side that wants to break into the top 6 of the PL, all I can think is he must show some good things in training but he’s had enough chances to who wit on the bigger stage but hasn’t. Richarlison should be our number one striker atm, then splash the cash on a striker in January if Kean hasn’t shown he’s up to the task.

I think kean will be good enough but might take
