2019/20 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Well there were more, Cardiff for one. However against 3 of the top 6 teams last season when he got back in he caused enormous difficulties for.

There are legitimate criticisms of Calvert Lewin (not least that he's not enough of a flat track bully) but there has to be an acknowledgement that his all-round game is substantially beyond what Niasse's is. I'm not even anti-Niasse. He has his uses and works hard, but is a very poor footballer at this level, but finds a way to score goals. However he's a long way behind the all-round game of Calvert Lewin.
Niasse is woeful and I know Lewin has the better hold up play and control etc, but the sad fact is niasse looks like he would score more goals than lewin.I'm not blaming Lewin either really it's just plain too see he is not going to score goals and as a premier centre toward that's a major part of the job description.

He is the easiest squad member to assess.
He is a genuine lad who shouldn’t be abused.
He works hard and has strong physical attributes.

However this is football at just about the highest level.
He clearly does not have the skills necessary to play more than a tiny part in a team hoping to finish 4-6th.
He should have been sold for 8/10mill to a championship side or be our 4th striking option.
It’s the managements fault for not bringing in better options and is a clear example of why we are not progressing as a team.

Yes and I did cover that. Niasse is a natural goalscorer but his all-round game isn't good enough.

Calvert Lewin isn't the most natural scorer but he's 22 and the hope will be he gets better at this aspect of the game, as he has improved other parts. At present we are a better team with him in it. It's no coincidence our upturn in form last season game with him as a striker.

I'm not being horrible mate, but he has a similar goal return to Rashford, and offers a lot more in the broad attributes (being at the same age as Rashford too).

There are criticisms of Calvert Lewin, but some of them verge on the ridiculous and don't stand up to scrutiny. The idea he's a championship player is one of those.

You talk about teams 4-6, well last season against the teams who finished 3rd, 5th and 6th he was miles ahead of any of their strikers. One of who'm has just been sold for £70+ million.

But will will never get above where we are currently with him in the team, he will never ever be a goalscorer.

Why not? Why can't he improve that aspect of his game as he gets older? He has a similar goal scoring return to Marcus Rashford (goals per minute) who is paid 200k p/w for a side who are above us (and they will make him their central striker). Any explanation for this?

Mate if you think Lewin. will score enough goals in the premier to launch us to go 6 even top 4 you are in for a long wait.Crawford is twice the player Lewin is and if you can't see that well.....

On what basis are you making the 2nd statement though? They have a similar goals per game/minute return. They are the same age. How are you measuring twice the player?

I'd politely suggest that there is more than a sense of the grass is greener to such a view.

I am not not saying you are wrong either. Calvert Lewin has lots of things to work on (which I've stated plenty on here) but some of the criticism goes too far in my view. There has to be a more balanced view taken.

You should apply for a job with Donald Trump mate.
Rashford has scored way more goals that DCL and has more assists.
We would get about 15 mill for him tops I think.
Hes worth probably a shade more than Davies and Holgate who should also be 4/5th choice players at best.

It’s no shame they will be millionaires from football and hopefully gave a good career - but if don’t be in the Prem.

Rashford will stretch teams with his pace he gets beyond defenders he moves them around he causes more problems than lewin ever will.If you could take a poll of premier centre/backs and ask who they would rather face I think I would know the answer.Rashford will score more than lewin and that is the main thing.

That’s just not true, is it?
