You really went their?. I don’t care what them stats suggest, Rashford is on a whole other level too DCL. I have eyes, and watch them play.

I have eyes and watch them play too mate. I'd say they both had areas of strength. Thats the problem with eyes, it's subjective. The stats are objective, and show quite clearly that DCL's goalscoring and assist making abilities are underrated.

This is my point with the detractors. It starts with an acknowledgement his all round game is good but his end results aren't (which is a fair point) but when evidence is produced to show it's a bit more complex than that, the evidence is laughed out of hand for some amalgamous eye test.

If you’ve watched some of the strikers we’ve had in more recent times, most of whom weren’t exactly world beaters and think this lad has any form of strikers instinct then you are crazy. Lukaku, Yakubu, Campbell and even your Johnson’s and Cahill’s all knew how to get themselves into a position to score.

This lad has shown improvements with his physical side which quite frankly a young man will do but still has absolutely zero strikers nous. The amount of times he fails to lose a man, make a sensible run or moves the ball to where the keeper has an advantage is staggering. Sounds harsh but if we want to do this mythical “pushing on” we have to stop being too sentimental with players like Dom.

It's the equivalent of being a VAR pub bore, being edgy defending crap players. Davies last season and DCL again. We had this with Klaasen too.

Accusing people of being "edgy" for putting forward a positive argument for players is pretty much the edgiest thing possible.

This edgelord football mensa behaviour is genuinely irritating. WTF do people think they are portraying themselves as by saying "we should sign Bojan" and stuff like this

It's not about football mensa mate, but it shows up an interesting point that people who deride Calvert Lewin for his lack of end product become very defensive about Rashford. There has to be some degree of balance when evaluating his performance.

Its not the lads fault,I mean hes getting asked to play that position and hes not going to say "thanks boss, but Im not good enough", so its the club/managers fault we have him there,if he was playing for the lokes of Huddersfield,Brighton,Norwich and we had put a bid in for him during the window the vast majority would be questioning why

The fact that you're trying to compare him to rashford says more about yourself

lol lol

I'm not sure what it says mate. You can compare any players. Sometimes the comparison will show up one player is well ahead of another. I don't think it does in this instance does it?

Could we not play DCL as a number 10 similar to when we played Naismith there. OK we would lose a bit of creativity but it would give teams something more to think about and his work rate means we could rely on him to track back.

Balance??

Wtf do you know about balance mate. You compared Davies to Pienaar and were so wedded to your convictions you wrote your 'Allardyce Revisited' article about a fortnight after slating him to high heaven. Of course, if you'd been brave enough to stick to your original view (rather than playing to the gantry) you'd have actually been right.

DCL is appalling. He barely scores, his movement is awful, he doesn't seem to have an understanding with any other player in the side, he doesn't have a single strength. Who cares how he compares to Rashford?

I try to tell the truth, so I'm not sure that makes me down as a suitable person to work with Trump!

Last 3 seasons for Rashford were 10 in 2331 mins (1 every 231 mins) 7 in 1799 mins and 5 in 1712 mins. Goals and assists last season 17 in 2331, 12 in 1799 and 8 in 1712.

Calvert Lewin has 6 in 1769 and 4 in 1871. Goals and assists he has 11 in 1769 last season and 12 in 1871 the season before.

In terms of goals per minute, Rashford is 231 (137 goals & assists per minute), 257 (150) & 343 (241).

Calvert Lewin has had; a goal every 294 mins (160) & 467 (155).

When you consider that Calvert Lewin has been playing with Bolasie, Martina, Tosun, Niasse, Walcott et all for support and Rashford has had Lukaku, Pogba, Sanchez, Lingered, Mata etc the numbers are more stark. Essentially in terms of goals and assists there is very little between the players other than Rashford has played a fair bit more.

And still the excuses continue :coffee:

‘I like him’ ‘he works hard’ ‘he’s young’ ‘he only cost 1.5mill’
All true but you might as well discuss the weather.

It is truely shocking he is the starting number 9 this first game and 99% predictable he would be shunted Sunday league style to the wing later in the game.
