But the long term goal is fighting for the top 6/7 no?

Otherwise why appoint one of the worlds best managers on a massive salary spending large amounts to be happy plodding in 11th?

There’s still a step between us and the teams you mentioned though. One striker isn’t bumping us up that far.

It is probably only at the very successful clubs that you see a lot of agreement amongst fans what each player brings to the team.

I can understand people not rating DCL as a good footballer... I don't agree but it is all about opinions.

What surprises me is that people who seem to value their own opinion and can discuss detailed tactics still cannot seem to see what DCL brings to the team and how valuable he is.

Yesterday, for instance, he was up against two centre halves best described as being in the classic mould. DCL game them a torrid time , contesting everything in the air, running the challenges and getting in where it hurt to try to score goals, which he nearly did, the one decision VAR got right probably all day.

Leading the line as he did allowed footballers like Richarlison and in particular Bernard to play as well as they did. I don't think DCL will ever be a prolific goalscorer. However, if he could get to about fifteen in a season added to the other attributes that he brings then he will be a very valuable player indeed.

I think he must be close to an international call up at this stage and that would see his value rocket in the transfer market.
Given that he is English, young and has scored eight Premiership goals already this season I think his value has shot up already anyway.

He has no assists this season .

That's not what I am, saying at all.

People saying that a striker to "convert chances" will change how we play are ignoring the issues we have actually creating chances in the first place.

This seems to have improved a bit since Ancelotti has arrived and to be fair DCL has got a few goals in that time.

Just dropping a new striker into this team in its current state probably doesn't change our rate of success.

A proven goalscorer obviously would.

I love how everyone uses his stats of being a 1in 5 striker - he’s young and the last three seasons have been awful for him. With the change in managers etc

this season he has improved massively.

I’m not saying he’s the long term option but give the lad a break Yes he missed that chance yesterday - but he did score (albeit handball) but the fact he threw himself at it shows he’s giving what he can for theteam

If DCL scores 2 goal in his next 2 premier league games he will have exactly a 1 in 5 strike rate. If he manages a hat trick in both games (unlikely I know) his strike rate will be exactly 1 in 4. I personally think given the amount of times he has been played out of position or he has only been a sub either one of these are pretty good for a team that has been in turmoil most of the time.

I wouldn't clock number of games either.... most games were less than half a game....

Massively helps though - take Vardy out of Leicester and they imo wouldnt be in the top 4 at present, likewise Ings is single handely dragging Southampton into the top half and not in the relegation fight.

A reliable goal scorer & GK are essential for every good side imo. Get them then you can sprinkle the quality around them

Let’s see how it pans out with the new boss a new system 2 up front. I think he has looked alot more potent with Rich along side him. He has scored 3 in 5 it could easily have been 6 in 5. There’s more to come I think. Be patient.
