Hit (not even very well most of the time) and hope is his only instinct in front of goal.

Throw an on-rushing keeper into the mix and the 'hit' part gets even worse than it is normally.
At least he's not as bad as that hit-and-hope merchant Walcott. What a gigantic waste of all that pace when he has absolutely no end product. DCL has time on his hands to improve, whereas Walcott takes home a huge wages and will be impossible to offload!

98 games 52 shots on target.

The trouble with statistics are they can conceal the real truth....
The statistic above does not take into account minutes played which would be a true account as a lot of the games could have been as a substitute....
It also does not take into account the progression of the player as his performances have been much better during the latter part as his improvement has matured therefore it obscures the real facts....

True but he still never came to most peoples attention until he was 25 at marseille.

That’s also true it took him 4 years to develop into that player that Chelsea wanted to sign. DCL has been with us 4 years and I know he’s younger but he hasn’t finished his finishing in that time imo or at least hasn’t improved it by any great margin and that’s what worry’s me

I know this is a popular excuse for young players, but I'm genuinely amazed you've used it for DCL.

He's one of the luckiest players in the premier league. Our laughable attempts at signing strikers over the last 3 years saw DCL play tens of games and gain huge premier league experience before he was even actually premier league standard. He's now played 100 league games, near enough. Most in his preferred position, at a top-half club. That's the dream. It's no surprise he's improved a bit. Managers have been forced to play him because the alternatives were Oumar Niasse and Cenk Tosun. He's been given game after game after game here. There's barely been an opportunity to mis-manage him and he certainly hasn't been.

"But he got played at right wing-back once though!!".

Perhaps it shows how little you actually know and lack a deep understanding of the game.

Managers, who played as defenders in their earlier careers, aren't attack minded in their tactics. Hence why DCL wasn't given the fullest support. DCL started scoring regularly when Ferguson became manager and made tactical tweaks to help the young striker.

No idea mate, I suppose you’d have to find a fat lad with less ability than Dom and ask him. Unfortunately I’m a finely tuned athlete who also has the ability to control a football and shoot at goal from more than 4 yards away from the target.

...and then he woke up from his dreams and dragged his lard arse from the bed.

You've posted twice now about mismanagement and haven't offered a single example of it.

So you are not aware of Ferguson's tactical tweaks to help DCL then? Further evidence of your lack of understanding of the game and a spouting of nonsense often repeated by the clueless posters on this thread.

I think more than mis management of his career its to do with tactics - i think tactical changes, lack of tactics (Big Sam), Koeman to Sam to Silva changes all contribute to the idea that the young players should get a free pass. However, the older more experienced players should have pulled the younger players through and still done their best with assists, good chances at corners and free kicks, - basic good play, and so they need more attention on what they have not done these past few years. He's got lucky definitely, becuase if Lukaku was still here or we had signed Giroud or someone like Michy Batshuayi he would not have have played so much
The main thing for me is that I can't blame him for what he's done - he has worked on fitness, practice and dedicates himself to the club, and if he's nto improving at the rate we expect, at least he's fighting and working!

Said it before, this guy needs about 6 chances in a game to score, not a natural striker.

He can work as hard as he wants which is good however if we were ever in a final of a cup competition and he is running through on goal 2 minutes to go would you be confident he scores for us to win it?

I will leave that thought there.

His strike rate is comparable with other strikers in the premiership. You must be seriously deluded if you think strikers can score from every chances being created.

So only take the stats on board when you agree with them, or they agree with you.
