2019/20 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Yesterday was a good example of the isolation and poor service he's suffered for the majority of his game time with us. Hope he continues to learn the game and prosper. He works hard, has a competitive edge i like to see in forwards, and after the game was visibly angry that we didn't win against a side he could see was poor. Will be a valuable player for the next five years.

He really isnt though. Dowell is far away from being able to play in any squad with ambitions higher than ‘escape league 2’.
That's not my opinion of him.

He has a lot of talent. He's been dispirited with all the loan deals. That started under Koemageddon, and I blame him for stopping his progress in its tracks.

He goes on loan and usually proves his class, then he settles back and loses his focus and intensity. I dont blame him so much for that, sending his talent to those clubs is like giving donkey's stawberries.

It's not that Dowell is poor - more that his game is simply not suited to the modern game at top level.
In days gone by every team had a classy, 'luxury' player. Nowadays everyone has to compromise their natural talents for the need to chase, harry, and provide cover for their defenders. Dowell is a player with supreme talent on the ball. He's a risk-taker in his quest to make things happen. But that's no longer countenanced.

"I'm hearing lots of names for England and you have to start throwing Dominic into the hat," said Everton captain Seamus Coleman.

"The only thing you could've said against him in the past was that he had to score more goals and this season he is doing that and answering the critics.

"He is working ever so hard for the team and he has stepped up another level."

Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti was also quick to praise the young forward.

"Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been really fantastic," said the Italian. "He scores goals, which is important for him and for the squad. He is having good performances and was important."

...a few weeks ago I looked for a price on him being in this summer’s Euro squad but his odds had tumbled from 33-1 to 16-1, so I didn’t bother. I imagine they’re even shorter now.

Some posters on here would have more favourable odds for you eggs as according to them he's garbage...in our makeshift poor midfield too.. imagine DcL in a team that made chances?...

Just not true Dave or even close.

He has never shown enough to be included in the first team. The loans were the perfect opportunity for him to get some experience by playing games in the Championship.
As you say he did start quite well in or two of those loans so he should have had the perfect springboard to push on but instead he just faded.
Holgate is a good example of what a loan deal should do for a player.
It isn't too late for Dowell yet, but anybody who thinks that making excuses for him will build his career is not operating in the real world.

I just think it was one of those games where West Ham were desperate and we didn’t match the intensity. Can’t really fault Dom for that when he scored and nobody really gave him much support all game (particularly his striking partner-not so much having a go at Kean as much as wishing Richy was still fit to play).

I could see Kean doing better with a Bernard/Gordon in a free role behind him but we might not have the opportunity to experiment with our chase for Europe
