2019/20 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I think no one replied initially because it was a moronic hypothetical situation.

Let's compare a '23 year old up and coming striker' with 'one that's at the end of of their career and who has had the chance to mature but who, at 23, was in a similar position to our guy'
No, I named 6 bang average strikers along with Dom and asked who you would turn to if you need a goal, if you can’t understand that then I can’t help you, if you do understand it then I take it from your reluctance to give an answer you won’t admit that it wouldn’t be dcl. It really is that simple.

I'd choose DCL ahead of all except Ings on current form.

Thanks, that’s all you had to say in the first place mate.
I just think hypothetical comparisons are pointless. All bar Origi have 5 years + experience on him. Compare him to other 23 year olds in the premier league.

The comparison also lacks context. Our philosophy under Brands for better or worse is nurturing and developing young talent, so comparing him to established premier league players (who should be at their peak) does not help IMO.

It wasn’t a comparison question though, it was purely a hypothetical question asking if you needed a goal who would you turn to on your hypothetical bench.

If you’d read further into the thread you will see I had also said I would start him ahead any of the others every time.

He's not the finisher Lukaku was for us.... tbf lukaku is a very good finisher - That's not in dispute.

The problem with lukaku to apply his "finishing" prowess means that he needs to have the chance created to do it. Against poorer sides his unintelligent movement isn't negated as much as it is when he plays against proper defenders. He gets caught offside way too often, defenders show him on his right foot..... he just doesn't get free to take his shot because he also can't create for himself.

DCL can score against better sides because he apply himself as a traditional centre forward, competes for every ball, wins headers, feeds the other players and gets available for the second balls.

Totally different type of players but I know exactly who I would want up front against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, etc.

Because Lukaku never scored in the Merseyside derby...

So we sold Lukaku for 3 times his purchase price
We made roughly 50 m profit on him
Do you think we would not do
A ) Much better than 3 times the purchase price for DCL
B) Make roughly 50 m profit on DCL

Before you answer ,consider the fact that Dominic Solanke was sold for 20 million pounds sterling

The market has continued on a ridiculous trajectory since then.

DCL is now doing decent.

He is also nowhere near in the class of Lukaku.

Loads of Everton fans just hated Lukaku as we all knew we were a stepping stone for him.

Meanwhile we could quite possibly be the biggest club DCL may play for.

Okay here’s a hypothetical scenario for you lads , and please answer honestly.

It’s last game of the season and we need 3 points to avoid relegation. We are drawing 1-1 away from home with 15 mins to go and we desperately need a goal. This is your hypothetical bench you can choose from but you only have 1 change left you can make, who would you bring on.

DCL
Jermaine Defoe (even at his age)
Troy Deeney
Danny ings
Chris wood
Divock origi

And be honest.

Personally I’d chuck Defoe on.
On current form? Dcl and ings.
FYI I actually rate all of those strikers. Woods perhaps lacks mobility but has scored goals everywhere. Deeney is a real handful, a good leader, lacks finesse but very effective. Origi is a big game goal scorer.

It depends on how the game plays out. Most likely you will try to get as many crossers as possible into the box, and then you need someone who can win the duels. DCL and Woods are the top two aerial players on this list, so I would choose one of them.

Think what people like most about DCL compared to Lukaku is they've had the same struggles outisde of goal scoring but DCL is clearly working hard and applying himself to work on the shortcomings of his game (as well as the actual finishing aspect of his game), he works hard and always makes himself available as an outlet.

Now Lukaku is clearly the better forward still, but I honestly don't think he vastly improved that much from the his 19 year old self when he joined Everton. He's more of a natural player. We saw glimpses of what a truly top level striker Lukaku could be with a better attitude, like against Chelsea in the cup for example.

Hypothetically when did we sign all these strikers and who are we taking off because at the moment DCL is starting every game. Also last game of the season is at Goodison. Highly unlikely scenario!
