Striker are judge by the number of goals he convert from the chances he had. I don't see us creating a lot of chances for him so far. Apart from goals, he had done decent job. he needs more maturity to get into goal scoring position and align his run to have an easier goal scoring...

Harsh on Long, he was actually a decent striker! Would have loved him as backup for us.

DCL is average Championship fodder somehow given the number 9 for us.

It's absolutely outrageous.

My personal favourite excuse is he needs more time and we need to be patient. I just cringe every time i hear it. Like 3 years, 81 appearances, 11 goals, 0.14 goals per match and 33% shooting accuracy isn't yet enough time and patience to realise the stark truth that he simply isn't good enough to be a main striker for any team in the premier league.

What most people often forget is that a good strike partnership is the sum of the parts! Shearer and Sutton were great, Sutton alone was decent at best! Dixon and Speedie were great, Speedie alone was a dog! Sharing ham and Cascarino were great, Cascarino was a cart horse! The fact is that individually they don’t have to be world beaters, so long as in partnership they click! DCL and Richy click, and are the first genuine strike partnership we have had in years, so just enjoy it lads ffs! Why do you always have to piss in the gravy :/

Some proper cruel things being said about the lad in here. Grown men dismantling a 20 year old lad who gives his all for the shirt, whenever selected.

It's hardly HIS fault we didn't sign a senior striker to take the mantle this seaaon.

The lad certainly has much room for improvement but come on, he was absolutely brilliant when we hit our stride towards the end of the season.

I'm not, by any stretch of the imagination, saying he's the answer. However, he hasn't been anywhere near as bad as some are making out.

I was a big critic of DCL and I didn't think he had what it took to make it at this level. He has however improved tremendously in recent weeks. Could that be down to a good manager? Maybe. Certainly don't think he's the finished article yet but it's looking good.
