What is a “natural finisher”? Loads of people regard someone like Defoe as a natural finisher, yet he rarely posted numbers as good as DCL’s this season.
I think of a natural finisher as someone who can find the bottom corner of the goal from pretty much any angle inside the box. Aguero is one, Kane, Defoe as mentioned, Yakubu also was very good at it.

Their technique and body position just looks right too.

I think DCL is great tho, very effective just that isn’t his strength

I think you can become a 'natural goalscorer' it just takes work until it becomes natural, nobody can deny that Dominic has worked very hard on his all round game. The sky is the limit for this young lad if he continues in this vein.

Goals are the only thing that matter. I wouldn’t even say Lukaku was a perfect finisher but he gets more goals than almost anyone. Diego Costa got tonnes of scrappy goals for Chelsea. I’ll take DCL scrapping in 15 goals over a striker who sumptuously curls in 8 a season.

That’s true, a lot of Lukaku’s goals looked bobbly and awkward, but he was always in the right place. It’s something DCL has improved at immensely since Ancelotti came in, he very rarely looked a threat in the box beforehand and now he’s getting 2-4 proper chances per game. If he continues to do that there’s no reason to say his goals will dry up.

....‘natural’ goalscorers have a picture of the goal and where the goalkeeper is in their mind. They don’t have to look up, they invariably finish across the keeper inside the post. They usually strike a ball sweetly on either side, but don’t always go for power.

They play on the front foot, stealing a yard on defenders and believing the ball will drop for them. They usually drop a gear when they get to the ball, going into a less hectic mode. They may have been prolific goalscorers at schoolboy and youth levels.

DCL is a little different. I still think he concentrates on getting to the ball and not particularly on the next phase of finishing. This is particularly evident in his aerial duals, where he’s dominant at getting to the ball but rarely controls his headers. The couple of chances Richarlison rolled into him at Arsenal, where his athleticism got him to the ball but then just a lack of composure and awareness to finish. DCL will get his quota, though. I like him.

An old fella once said to me, ‘you expect some players to score when they get a chance, but others you just hope they score‘.

I always take a natural ability as something innate and not taught/practiced.

He will never have the natural instincts as a Lineker type but you can teach you're body to do things naturally by constant repetition. Either way, I'm just enjoying his improvement.
