2019/20 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The issue for Calvert Lewin is he's not a naturally top level goalscorer. You can see he works very hard at aspects of his game, but he's quite limited and takes him time. Neville made a good contrast yesterday of Richarlinson, who takes the ball on the half turn, moves his body around and gets a shot away. Dom doesn't do that. There was one in the second half, where he has a chance to run with the ball, but plays a first time ball to Richarlinson who's marked and we lose it.

What he's always had, alongside a brilliant work ethic and approach to the game is great natural physicality. So he's a threat in games. He's obviously struggling a bit post re-start and looks a fair bit of the clinical striker we saw pre-lockdown. Like Harry Kane it may take him a few weeks to get started and hopefully he clicks into gear,

While he was poor yesterday, if I were him I'd be fuming with the team that nobody got on the end of that header off a corner. It's a bad corner, but he reacts, towers over Aldewiereld who's one of the best in then air, and heads it back perfectly into an area for someone to just tap the ball in. It was a brilliant piece of movement and awareness. When the ball drops, there are 4 spurs players and not a single Everton player nearby. If 1 player had gambled it's a tap in and we all laud how well he does for the header.

He will get 15 league goals this season, which given everything else he provides is fantastic. In all honesty he's the 3rd name on our teem sheet behind Digne & Richarlinson and while he's not perfect, we've got far bigger problems than him.

Anyone watching him the last 2-3 years can see how much he’s improved. I’d like him to show more leadership though.

He’s not getting enough from the players around it and should be letting them know.

That backheel was boss.

This opportunity and the other one that Neville highlighted in the first half when he received a pass in between their lines and then turned out with it instead of going for goal, are the type of situations he needs to work on. But as you said that sort of thing is more natural instinct, which Richie clearly has and Dom doesnt.

The chance that you mentioned was crying out for a one touch to get it out the feet and then bang it

Called that one out watching with my son. Could have turned and Richarlison was being tracked by two players. DCL need to drive and take the shot.

Prob with DCL and Richarlison playing alongside each other is that they do not generally link well. The only time I can recall them doing so is usually a flick on long ball. They just head straight for goal (Richarlison) or pass back (DCL) - rarely the through ball or soft touch.

Not missing chances every week, simply cos he's not in the right place to even take a chance.

Lacks any natural striking talent, is a very good athlete who will try all day and isn't afraid of getting stuck in, but ultimately lacks the predatory skills of a top, top Striker.

He could be in the perfect position for a chance and the rest of the team wouldn't find him.

They found him a few times v norwich and his finishing was poor.
I like him. My slight concern though is he had a purple patch of scoring and like so many players weve had the last few years you get the sense they think they have made it or done enough. But that goes through this club. Doing ok is enough.
He def has the potential to be a handful for any defence though. Still raw.

I remember maybe a far post header but I wouldn't say his strikes from 25-yards count as being found nor a chance.

I also disagree heavily on the bold as he's always extremely humble, always trying to improve (and has) - you don't do that if you think you've made it.

He had a header in the 2nd half. Unmarked in the box. He never even made the keeper work.
But id stick with him. Def be in the market for another good striker but id say CL has a future here.

15 goals this season is a decent return. I still think we need some more competition up front to take the pressure off him/ stick him on the bench when he's off form. If only 20 goal a season strikers were easy to find and hold onto.

The main issue is we've got no goals coming from anywhere else besides him and Richarlison. I think he'd get more credit for his 15 goals if we weren't so desperate for goals from the rest of the team.
