Probs because he scored 15 goals for us last season.

He did, most of them goals were scored when we played a more direct style of play. Post covid, his goals dried up due to Carlo trying to impose his style on the team. We also struggled in games when DCL didn't play well as we didn't have much else on the bench in terms of attackers.

This is why I think he'd be an ideal 2nd striker if we can get in another one. I'm not saying he won't improve either, I just don't think he's at the level we require in order for us to progress.

But he also didn''t need to say anything at all.
No you're right...

Reporter: What do you think of DCLs performances of late?

Ancelotti: No comment

Of course any manager is going to bum a player up when he's asked about him because saying anything otherwise is going to risk upsetting the player and/or lowering his potential value as other clubs would be aware that he didn't feature in the managers plans.

I'm not giving an opinion on him either way, merely highlighting that a manager almost never bags a member of his playing staff.

Massive season for DCL. It now looks like we will have players that can split defences with passes and be more accurate with crosses. DCL must tune in to the same wavelengths sharpish and know how to create a yard or two of space in dangerous areas. If he has this in his locker then brilliant for us all....but if he hasn't then I can see Ancelloti only putting up with it for a limited time. We have signed players who should be able to give us experience and hopefully around there peak, therefore waiting 3 or 4 years for DCL to reach his peak is counter effective. He needs to show he is capable now and still potentially improve or it could be a waste of serious talent in Dacoure, Allen and James. Those players really need to be backed up with a competent striker.
DCL is a wait and see....hopefully he has it but it is still unknown.

I don't care if they come off his arsp a goal is a goal ........yes he misses the odd chance but really in a good team he would score quite a lot more than 15.... most improved player at the club imo....
Remember the great Mick Madar scoring off his arse when I was a kid i think in the away end somewhere, I think selhurst park? Goals a goal!

Hope he has a great season obviously, but I’m not totally sure that he’s good enough to lead our line long-term.

In terms of positives, he’s good in the air, defends from the front, has decent link up play and got into good positions last year to score 13 goals.

However, I do worry that some of those goals last year were a bit flukey and he probably benefited from luck that won’t repeat as often. He is really a poor striker of the ball if you compare his shooting technique vs. someone like Kean. If he can score 15+ goals a season, I don’t care how they go in the net, but I do worry that a tally like that is unsustainable without better finishing skills.

Anyone who is comparing him to Richarlison in terms of stats is short sighted, Richarlison plays different positions and takes shots from everywhere so therefore will have differing shot percentages.

DCL is only shooting and missing his from the 6 yard box, god forbid he try’s a shot from outside the box, some poor grandma coming out of home bargains on county road with her essentials would have the wig knocked clean off her barnet by a stray ball.
Good one lollollollol

Well that's a lie because post COVID we had zero style. Hence we got smacked at home to relegated Bournemouth.

And is that what he was asked?
