So now he's England's next big star. How long until they start tearing him down? Hope he's got the mental strength for it. Does seem to be a level-headed lad, to be fair.

Hopefully this will be a lesson on here to those who write off young Everton players as not being good enough.

Young players need time and space to develop. Just because they may go through a lean patch doesn't mean they are bad, just still learning the game.

Those that criticise other young players like Davies should first tell us what their opinion of DCL was twelve or eighteen months ago.

Not sure if its been mentioned on here but the last Everton player to score on his England debut was Pickering, my dad often used to mentioned Fred Pickering scoring against Liverpool, lets hope DCL can carry on the tradition.

Its amazing how many England centre forwards Everton have provided over the years. Pickering started his career as a defender and became a centre forward in an emergency, and proved to be pretty good, The Everton and England centre forward everyone forgets is Frank Wignall, who from memory only got one cap, like Dave Unsworth!! Osman got a couple of caps, but most everton and England centre forwards got multiple caps.I'm sure one of our historians can come up with a list!

Interestingly, it seems like the often maligned Unsworth was largely responsible for getting him in and cone layer in chief Duncan Ferguson is credited with a lot of his development.
