We had Lukaku there, maybe the issue was that Deulofeu didn’t actually do it that often.
 
This lad is becoming a BEAST. If he can keep this form up and add some more strings to his bow he will become our best player.

It's the same league that saw 34-year-old Ashley Young score more goals last season than he did in the previous decade of football in England.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 39 years old now, is scoring in excess of a goal a game, five years removed from his Premier League stint where he scored 1 in 2.

That's the harsh truth of it. It is, quite simply, a much easier league if you're in a top side domestically. It has two or three comparatively high quality teams, another two or three half-decent sides comparative to the level, then the quality falls off a cliff and week on week goalscorers of any quality, regardless of age, help themselves to goals against cannon fodder, because the opposition aren't up to scratch.

Ibrahimovic would score in most leagues. He's a freak.

Don’t watch much Italian footie these days so standard could well have declined but.... not too long ago seem to remember having nightmares for months after getting absolutely pumped in the Europa league under Koeman by an Atlanta side that finished 6th or 7th in Serie A.

You can have a goalscorer score two goals a game every round of a cup tournament, yet if he doesn't turn up in the final or any given round, you're playing that game with 10 men.

It's a different approach to understanding football - loads still have the "Roy Of The Rovers" mentality, where if a striker scores he's "done his job". That hasn't been the case for nearly a decade now but that archaic mindset still persists.

I'd rather have a striker score 15 a season and be the DCL type of player, than score 25 a season and be a Lukaku type. Because the cohesion and consistency of the team, game after game, is much better - there's a glass ceiling on what you can do with just a goalscorer up front.

It's why Deschamps persisted with Olivier Giroud during the World Cup despite him not scoring a goal or even getting a shot on target!
