Every striker misses chances. I don't deny Dom needs to work on his finishing. Some players you get the sense they'll never improve. This lad I do think he'll work on his game.

The other side is, he's an asset. I'd love to see him paired with an Ian Wright, Kevin Phillips or Jermaine Defoe kind of striker. They'd wreak havoc. Sadly, these kinds of player ain't so common. Nor is the 2 up front model.

But anyway, we focus on the now and shortcomings all too often. I'd love to see him kick on and form part of a front line to be truly feared. That's up to Carlo, but I see potential rather than slating for current shortcomings.
I do wonder sometimes whether having big Dunc as a mentor might not be the best thing as Duncs strong point was in the air which is the same with DCL. Dom could do with working on his first touch/finishing which is why if we do bring in a striker rotation option id prefer it to be someone a bit more experienced who would be more guaranteed goals and someone he can learn some stuff from.

Yeah, I never really recall Dunc being a one v one striker. Some excellent hold up play before rolling a defender and smacking the ball though (that goalat Old Trafford in the 2-2 for one). Not bad on the volley either.

Different players have different strengths. You wouldn't be tossing the ball into the box for Cottee to beast defenders etc.

I mean we have and he misses

When he was scoring for fun in the early part of the season we as a team were creating more chances per game than we have in the last few months.

It's simple maths really, even if you're striker is crap if you make enough chances he will score.Allan, Doucoure and James aside, our midfield is poor. Digne creates chances, do we get the same from Coleman/Holgate/Godfrey/ whoever is being our stopgap at right-back?

In a season were he's on 19 goals in 33 appearances but as a team we're not scoring enough goals, I think the questions need to directed to our midfielders who should be chipping in much more.

I do actually think he's decent, would be nice to have that different type of striker who can create space for himself and get a shot off rather than just being a poacher or an aerial threat.

He's an absolute sick-note though, so no thanks.
He stayed fit last season and banged for fun.

This season he's still slotted but been injured loads.

Seeing that RVN goal, football was so much more passionate and entertaining before megamoney came in. Football is a sad state of what it used to be. even crowds don't cheer any more(or sing for 90 mins like they used too) what on earth is going on in the world of football.

No problem with Dom being a poacher but we need an alternative route to goal other than the left flank.

Whilst he hasn't been scoring as freely as he was in the early parts of the season, his link up play with the midfield is excellent - something that he has really improved on. I think people overlook the fact that he's still only 24 years old.
