Mike, why do you bother with this? I know you hate him but:

88 games, 35 goals, 8 assists since Carlo came in.

29 goals and 6 assists in 59 under Carlo before the injuries struck.

They are great numbers.
I think it’s 59 in about 210 overall.

But bear in mind these figures that are so great, are in a team that has tried to be set up for him. We’ve signed 2 players just to cross the ball to him, which was absolute madness.

We absolutely should have sold him when his stock was artificially high.

He was really good in the past, especially under Ancelotti, but he is really really bad now, to the point where he has no obvious strengths anymore.

Both can be true, and both are true in my opinion. I think the injuries have finished him as a good forward at this level. I used to think it was a lack of commitment because he was a shadow of the player we used to see every week, now I think he's trying so hard but just doesn't have it anymore.

Backing Gordon and DCL were 2 massive misjudgements made by Lampard and the board/DOF.

Lads it’s hardly rocket science

He’s good in the box and scored loads when we had James, Digne and Sigurdsson supplying him

Should we be surprised he’s far less prolific when those positions are now filled by Gray, Mykolenko and Iwobi?

He scored loads during a purple patch and then scored 4 in 20 with Digne, James and Sigurdsson supplying him. It’s probably best if people, for their own sake, just accepted that that’s the player he is, a 1 in 4 Premier League striker.

It's not that simple either. He has clearly declined signifcantly as well. Service argument is irrelevant when someone plays as poorly as he did yesterday.

We are absolutely not good enough to play with one central striker who is completely unable to create anything for themselves. No other team in the league, except maybe Bournemouth, plays with such a limited centre forward. He has no obvious qualities anymore and yes it's probably due to the injuries, but that doesn't mean we just carry on waiting forever to see if things improve.

Insane that people still don’t think a centre forward should be offering more outside of waiting for a chance to be put on a plate for him in the air in the 6 yard box. The other areas of his game are desperately poor, he doesn’t hold anything up, doesn’t run the channels, doesn’t win fouls, doesn’t run off the shoulder, can’t even jump properly for a header anymore it seems. Centre halves have the easiest time of their lives playing against him. He is just not very good, sorry if this upsets people.

He used to be good, but he is now very bad.

It's sad, but it's the reality. He is not going to turn our season around.

I think you and others are thinking way too much into it and are missing the obvious in front of you.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin improved year on year for us until he got a nasty set of injuries that have basically derailed him for a year.

It's not because he lives in his head or wants to model or even that he has always been crap, his injuries and poor treatment of them have messed him up.

To be honest mate, I'm not arsed about his modelling, or what clothes he wears, and I've always been a fan of the lad and never thought him to be crap. I just think that mentally his injuries have taken the edge off his game a little, which can be overcome in time.

He showed the power he could have with the Palace goal and the instinct in the box he did have with the United goal that got ruled out but he just hasn’t shown it enough to justify being in the side right now, wether that’s playing within himself or what not but we cannot afford passengers right now

I think he briefly looked good as a goalscorer, but even then most of his goals were headers or horrible scuffs. He’s never been good in front of goal, he used to pester defenders though which meant he was offering something when he wasn’t scoring, and helped the team. Now he thinks he’s some sort of Poundland Ruud van Nistelrooy he is offering absolutely nothing to the team because we can’t guarantee 5 chances per game in the penalty area for him.

Depends what his instructions are though. Carlo used to tell him not to run channels and do nothing but be in the box ready to get on things. He used to be brilliant at holding the ball up but I don’t see us playing it to him anymore we’re always messing around at the back then out to a full back, the instruction is clearly not ‘hit the big man and play off him’ like it used to be.

I’m loathe to criticise him this season because we don’t seem to have tactics when we go forward, Frank alluded to that himself yesterday with his weird comment about the final third being up to the players to have a bit of magic.

I’m not saying he’s not dipped in quality and isn’t as good as he was on his purple patch, I’m saying how can we know for sure if we’re not playing to his strengths which are using him to start attacks with long balls and lay offs and then him getting on the end of balls in the box. Aside from one from Iwobi which he almost got a toe on, what did he have to work with yesterday if he was told his role is to get on the end of chances. He’s never been a player like Rooney who made his own chances has he?
