2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I'd worry that the situation will go on like it did for Gbamin and he stays on the books for the remainder of his contract.

Surely now the club has to request both an exhaustive internal and external medical and physiological assessment of where his career is and at what level of football, if any, he can play at.

It's difficult to see how such an assessment could conclude he is a viable player at this level now.

I like the lad, and wish it was not like this, but the interests of the club must prevail. We should be looking to come to a settlement to pay up his contract and let him get on with the next stage of his life and his career.

Extending the waiting period on that does nothing for the club, nor him.

Do we miss calvert lewin or do we just miss a central striker who can be a focal point.
It's down to the wider situation with the squad imo. Due to the poor recruitment for a while now we have ended up in a situation where we always have to play with a 'focal point' striker. We don't have any other options to play any other way. Yes we need a replacement for DCL as at this level you simply can't have a player who is so in/out all the time being your main man in your plan A but we also need a plan B option. The playing balls into a big man which is the epitome of Dycheball is quite predicable and not exactly difficult to play against. We need 2 strikers for me, a DCL replacement and another option, something a bit different.

We all love Dom and want him to succeed however it’s now 2 years of not really being able to play. It’s annoying. He does everything we want from a striker at Everton but it’s going to be hard against Bournemouth without him. We simply don’t have another striker. He doesn’t fancy Simms, and Gray is more of a winger. Leaves Maupay who won’t shoot for the life of him, confidence completely gone.

It's Dom specifically for me. We've asked Simms on a couple of occasions to essentially try and replicate his role but he's been far, far less effective.
Simms is a totally different sort of a player that's why, just because he is a big lad doesn't make him a target man, he is better with the ball at feet and wants to run on to things.

We miss DCL because he is our only functional striker, and a pretty good one when fit.

But we should have signed another functional striker, if not two. We have no options in the squad and that's the real issue. A squad is not fit for purpose if one injury causes a crisis.

Functional impies that he can be regularly deployed. I'd argue that this season he has most certainly not been functional!

That's fair.

I think by functional I meant that he is a forward who the team can function around when he plays. I'm not sure how we've got to a situation where we only have one forward who can play where we expect the team to function properly and compete.

Simms is a budget Lukaku, and just like Lukaku he will always struggle if everyone tries to get him to hold the ball up for others. I actually think Simms would be a steady option up front if we played to his strengths.
