Yeah BBC said hamstring and Dyche said hamstring when asked something in the presser, wasn’t talking about Patterson as his is “jarred knee”.

I can’t see anyone going off before halftime with any sort of hamstring issue after 2 years of injuries playing a week later. Even if he started, the team would be waiting for the inevitable and we’d be on plan B after 20 mins. Hoping for a miracle really. After all this time, he will know his body inside out (and that level of constant pain/symptom monitoring ruins you mentally) so it’s not like he’s mistaken cramp for something else.

The way they’ve delayed and delayed his return, potentially putting points at risk, and it still hasn’t helped him be more robust, I can’t see much hope. Summer of rehab is no different to missing 3 months of the season. They’ll start talking about ops at some point, and mystery specialists in Austria or Canada; that really will be the end of him.
To add to that, even if we patched him up and he started i strongly suspect he'd be holding back and playing within himself. We've seen that before. First, he's just not effective doing that. Second, he starts getting pelters for 'not trying' and the like.

Speculating of course, but I would be surprised to see anything than a brief appearance off the bench. At the very outside.

Very true. Goodison needs to be on fire, and no good for him, the team or keeping the crowd on side if he’s having to manage something. It won’t work. It’s going to be a game for warriors. He’s been really mobile since he came back and showed exactly what we’ve missed. Really chuffed for him that he had such a visible impact immediately. If anything he’ll get sucked into the atmosphere, chase a lost cause and end up carried off and we’ll end up putting Begovic on as a false 9. Am sure they will spend the week preparing the lineup without him, but maybe with fingers crossed behind their back 🥹

Feel bad for the lad, but I think thats probably it for him. We will probably be his last major contract and will leave for turkey on a free only to retire early. Its a real shame as a fit Calvert Lewin and we are probably safe ages ago.

At the risk of going off topic, I like this idea. Why hasn't Dyche tried it? ;)

Surely there must be an underlying issue we don't know about, how on earth do you get to this level and then can't string more than 3 games together.

I do feel for him he is in a really tough spot at the moment, I have seen a few people in similar situations through my work and it's horrible. Do you push on and have a bitty career that's very stop/start all the time and run the risk of needing a walking stick by the time you are in your mid to late 40's because your hamstrings have collapsed. Or do you call it a day now whilst you can. Being a pro footballer is a dream for a lot of young lads though and it's not any easy decision to make.

If he chose to retire in the summer (i would) what happens next?

Insurance payout to the club? Im sure he'd also receive a large payout on his contract.

@Eggs seriously, if i was him id retire at this point.

Move into a media career with huge money in his account and not go through the trauma of frequent injuries.

Unless Dyche comes out by, say, Wednesday and says he's 100% out for the weekend, expect the rest of the week and his press conference to be extremely guarded and absolutely nothing to come out until Sunday where he'll likely be in the squad if he hasn't been ruled out injured. If he's able to be patched up and give us 30 minutes, I'm sure he'd want to get on the field and will do all he can to try and help us out of this position we're in. I don't think he's snapped anything but there will obviously be some degree of injury to the hamstring. But a one-legged DCL is still 100x better than a fully fit Maupay. Obviously if the lad has a bad one and can barely walk then he'll play no part at the weekend.

The harsh reality is that his wages could be better spent elsewhere under the circumstances. If it is the end they could reach a settlement with him but I'd imagine thats 12 months off. We just can't afford to pay him to be in continuous treatment with the state we're in. Goals cost money.

You can usually see from a players reaction how bad the injury is and DCL looked gutted and his season was over. Patterson had a similar reaction. I would be amazed if we see either next week.
