He won’t go to the euros, Kane, Watkins & Toney have all had far superior seasons, (maybe not Toney in that regard) but if he was to continue next season as he’s finished this season he’ll definitely be in the conversation again. I really hope we keep Dom, he’s been slated a lot by all of us, me included, but he’s definitely a great player on his day
Think Toney is massively overrated and not done much since his ban. If DCL had started to turn his form around a month or so earlier, he may have had a look in

That initial purple patch is what I remember most about him but he got found out by defenders in his second season.

Scored some great goals after (spurs and city), but Lukaku coming in next season really showed him to be abit of a one-trick pony.

We went from servicing him with the sort of deliveries he wanted to instructing him to pull defenders wide so Fellaini could score from the ten position the season after. I’ve still no idea why Moyes did this. The first half season was all about Osman and Pienaar getting pull backs in the area and Jelavic would be sweeping them in a show movement and finishing were so good. Its not as though he started missing these same chances the season after, he stopped getting them because we seemed to play into channels and he was doing work outside the box whilst Fellaini profited from it more.

If Jelavic played for this City team he’d have been bagging so many goals because they’d put them on a plate for him.

Why didn’t Jelavic score goals anywhere else then? He was a bad striker who had a good patch, not a good striker who had a bad patch. He was useless everywhere else after we sold him too, that wasn’t Moyes’ fault.

Not having that mate, he was prolific in the *checks notes* Chinese league after quitting England. 1 in 2 ratio yo!

He’d scored goals for Rangers and was a Croatian international. I don’t know why everything has to be so binary for you, either he’s scored loads of goals everywhere in his career or he’s complete rubbish? He was a decent striker who worked well in the right system and was probably at the level he needed to be being a backup to Lukaku at a club like Everton pushing for Europe in the PL. Doesn’t make him bad, or terrible, or crap, he had a career 99% of footballers would dream of.

This whole conversation started because you were suggesting we had sufficient depth in 2013 because we had the likes of Jelavic as a backup for Lukaku. The point I’m making is that he was nowhere near good enough to be Lukaku’s backup, our manager at the time thought that, hence why he never played and was sold to Hull in January. That’s not me saying he has absolutely no ability as a footballer and should be playing Sunday league. He wasn’t good enough for us, that’s basically it. He scored goals in leagues that were far, far below the standard of the Premier League, like the SPL and the Chinese league. That was his level.

Where did I say it was sufficient? I said it would be good to have that now. It would be. Those strikers, with the wide players, plus Barkley at 10, are far far better attacking options than the ones we have now. That’s how this started. In an ideal world, sure, I’d prefer Haaland Alvarez Foden De Bruyne but I’d take the 13/14 attackers over the ones we have now, and even they were only good enough for fifth place, which is the point I’ve made about the current poor quality squad multiple times (e.g it’s nowhere near the quality of previous Everton teams that only came 5th or 6th)

Regardless of our different opinion on Jelavic Martinez’s opinion on him is irrelevant given some of the tosh he bought that he presumably did consider good enough for the club. Whether anyone thinks he was good enough or not for Everton, a prime Jelavic walks into this squad.

Well I agree I’d definitely have Lukaku over anyone in our current squad. Jelavic I’m not sure would be a huge upgrade on Beto to be perfectly honest, they’re similarly average strikers who scored a few in bum leagues and didn’t really adapt to the Premier League. Beto has yet to have the purple patch, granted.

He would never, ever, get in that City team. I mean, what?
