2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

My biggest gripe with him is that he is praised for holding the ball up well, but also bemoaned for giving it away because there's no Everton players supporting him. Holding the ball up well is pointless if there's then nobody to lay it off to.

I'd rather he was selfish and hovered around the box to score goals. It would benefit the team more over the season. The problem with that is his finishing has been poor.
I like DCL a lot but even this element of his game has been poor recently. Managers have realised that if you double up on him, we lose a huge part of our game "plan"

Thought, similar to Lindstrom, that he struggled for space yesterday and it was evident in his movement (or lack thereof).

I do like that Palace system that Glasner uses (practically a 3-4-3) but the downside of it is that it can easier to counter, which we managed a few times yesterday, one of them leading to our first goal.

What it does do well though is look to smother forwards out when the ball goes more direct. Lermer & Guehi had comfortable games for the most part and could do nothing about either of our goals, luckily for us!

He's having to sacrifice goal scoring positions for the sake of the system.

Problem with Dom is he sometimes needs 3/4 chances to net so if he's not in them positions during games his tally is absolutely going to take a hit.

The reason he did well under Carlo is because the system was geared towards him having the ball on his toe in the 18 and 6 yard box.

I think this is one of the main reasons he wants out,Forwards want to score,Forwards want to be in a system that will showcase them and I think he's probably had enough of sacrificing himself for the sake of the team.

The thing is, he still gets good opportunities. Twice yesterday, he absolutely fluffed his lines in front of goal. I like him, but he just isn't a natural goal scorer.

The even bigger problem is that in that 3/4 chances he needs to score there`ll be an absolute howler like the one he wasted against Villa, when he was put clear threw on goal and completely wastes a great chance to score.
