2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Here's a fun one.

Oumar Niasse 1 goal every 166 minutes for Everton.

Dom 1 goal every 246 minutes for Everton.

Denis Stracqualursi 1 goal every 345 minutes for Everton.
56 Prem goals in 9 seaons now for our current No9.

Will never understand why Niasse was exiled-over-night by Koeman whilst this joker has such an entrenched, ardent fanclub. Wouldn't happen at any other club with an ounce of ambition.

The moment the takeover is completed, this guy will sign a new contract
If TFG have anything about them, 1 of the first 3 things they'll do is revoke the contract offer on day one. Is there any other club in the league that would honestly offer a new contract (with presumable pay rise included) to a "striker" who has scored a whopping 17 goals in his last 3.5 seasons?

Because Niasse wasn’t good, he was disgracefully treated and only used cos Moonhead was desperate but he was an utter donkey

He threw DCL to the wolves too btw which is why, imo, he’s never been liked by a chunk of the fanbase because he was pushed in as Lukaku’s replacement 2-3 seasons too early instead of a striker being bought and he sent on loan for a season

I wasn't suggesting Niasse was Lewandowski-incarnte (he was indeed mostly rubbish on the whole and a total waste of about £16-18m was it under Bobby Marty) but IMO the excuses for Dom are never ending. This is a lad who has never ever scored significant goals in the Prem except for 2 seasons, 4 years ago, under one of the best managers in the history of the game, partly in the era of empty stadiums.

4 years from now when this lad has scored 17 goals for whatever-mid-table-club-is-daft-enough-to-sign-him, methinks some people will still be clinging on to every excuse under the sun instead of simply acknowledging the basic reality: he is not an elite striker nor capable of being a regular goal scoring No9 in the Prem. The sooner this club addresses that very simple fact, the sooner we can move out of tinpot territory and MAYBE compete with the likes of Brentford and Brighton and Fulham and Bournemouth.

Tbf he's making a very good living out of being not very good at being what he's paid a very good wage to do. Genius.

Yup, typical story of Everton in the Premier League. He's the modern day Hibbert/Osman - a bog standard player who can "do a job" but would never be good enough to have a 8+ year career at any other Prem club. Once you've "made it" as a Prem footballer, you're on the gravy train for life unless you blow it. As much as I think he's lower league standard at best, you'd be stupid not to run out your deal, explore all your options and get the best offer possible. (He makes millions whilst the fan base bickers back and forth. I know which one of those I'd rather be).

Ok, much (way too much) alcohol has been taken and it’s very late. But slurp, hic, it’s so very clear to me now, what needs to be done with him.

He’s good at receiving, holding the ball, he’s strong, fast, athletic and can find a pass under pressure. He’s just not too brilliant at the old beating the goalie malarky, particularly when he’s the main man up front.

He’s often found coming deep, or wide, looking for the ball. He can’t then cross to himself, coz he isn’t where he should be. Maybe he was never a centre forward in the first place. We just never had anyone better to play there.

It’s so obvious, play him deeper, as an attacking midfielder, with Beto, or eventually Broja, upfront.

He’d also probably score way more goals than he does now. I’m really hoping this makes as much sense to me, when my aching head has to be crow-barred off the pillow, later this morning !

Baring any injuries we will have 4 fit #9s at the start of the window, DCL has 6 months left on his contract and not signing another one. Only one option and that is to sell him to the highest bidder (hopefully a table rival :) ). Teams desperate for new strikers every Jan should get something decent coin even with 6 mths left if its a bidding war.

Just checking Niasse career stats since leaving us…

Hibbert was excellent as a defender. Yeah didn’t offer much going forward but defensively, couldn’t really ask for much more.

Never really understood the hype around Osman but do understand why he is remembered fairly fondly. But like arteta, always shoved out to the wing and out of position, but never complained and always worked hard.

For DCL, he was brought in too soon to replace Rom, which no one was ever doing as Rom was an outlier in terms of PL strikers for Everton. Like, no one would have lived up to that, Rom was a level above us.

Carlo played to his strengths and he had good returns. None of the managers since have. (2 rushed him back from injury a few times which seemed to wreck him).

Under Benitez, and I’ve noticed it a bit with Dyche, we often wait until he is subbed off and then start swinging more crosses in (probably out of desperation as it’s last 10 mins and chasing games). If that’s the plan, we need to leave him on or be starting Beto and bringing DCL on.

It's more the idea that he's not a prolific goalscorer but will get you 9 or 10 which in the league is a good standard if done regularly. Issue is the support and goals around him which is woeful.

So you're having the ask him to be the complete centre forward. It's why Doucs gets goals when next to him.

We had a better partner next to him (think Cahill in his pomp for example), you'd be less forgiving of the one on ones he misses.
